Here's another thought: I don't think Clinton has really sorted out in his own head just yet what he wants to do and what he wants to be. AI is something that interests him so he's studying it but he hasn't gone as far as thinking where he may go in the future.

FWIW, I strongly doubt that AIs in the QC universe will leave humans 'in the dust'; most of them are too human-like. It is much more likely that those that do pursue their evolution will vanish from view and build their own society elsewhere whilst those that prefer to stay with humans will become an increasingly integrated and unobtrusive part of society to the point where most people will think of them as just being... other people.

I for one welcome our new robot overlords.
