Here's why I think Jeph will pair Elliot with Roko: It has been established that, firstly, they live in the same apartment block and, secondly, they have Melon as a common manic pixie gynoid friend. It should be relatively easy for Elliott to help Roko carry her bread supplies home one day and for them to start draw closer as friends. What comes next (possibly as a rebound to them seeing Brun kissing Clinton 'to see what it is like') would be relatively organic in terms of narrative flow, if a bit romcom cliche.

I've long thought that the solution to bigotry is early and in-depth social contact. It's hard to 'other' people whom you know well and you meet every day. You might still hate them on a personal level because they're complete and utter asses but you won't see them as 'others'. So, anyone else think that, tomorrow, Roko is going to be cornered by Brun by the door who is going to want to now where she's going with all that bread?

If only AIs actually came into the world as free, self-aware, individuals. The ones we see in the world today are purpose-built, completely obedient, and exist as a sort of hive mind. We are unprepared for AIs because most ordinary people don't know anything about them. Kind of like immigrants. Humans are mostly just scared of other humans, why will it be any different with humanoid AI? They will be stranger than we can imagine. I'm waiting for the Second Renaissance myself.
