As I've said before, this is very much all about Claire's self-expectations, not what anyone else expects of her. Regarding his fighting skills, Marten has beat up some kung-fu monks but I'm not sure how much of that was a fluke. I don't think that they were ready for his skillet-fu! In any case, asking Bubbles to give someone a stern talking-to is a far worse fate than any application of physical violence. Knowing that she is DISAPPOINTED IN YOU is very much a fate worse than death!
