There is a word kicking around psychiatric circles: counterphobic. It names the tendency to deal with anxiety or fear by going toward, rather than away from, scary things. It's not a disease, only something that psychiatrists see often enough to want a name for. I have seen a few like that, and I like and admire them. They can get pretty damned wild, though. Remember how Hannelore was when we first see her, and how Jeph blamed her behavior then on meds? Maybe that is Hannelore in full counterphobic mode. Maybe she will now integrate that part of her with the part we know.

I've got to say that Strip 2443 is kind of like visual fingernails raking down a blackboard for me. Hannelore is so utterly TERRIFIED of becoming her mother (only worse) that it doesn't even come across as slightly funny! I think that's why she ran away in the end.
