Ah, that reminds me of Faye's mother. I keep wondering how it usually plays out in families with two children, one of whom comes out. Assuming the parent had a problem with that, what then tends to be the effect on the remaining sibling? I could see it going both ways. On the one hand, if the parent has to adjust their thinking, then the remaining sibling would benefit from that. On the other hand, if the parent adopts a "Now you're my last chance for grandchildren!" mentality, the remaining sibling could suffer from it.

Feet, too. The two of them are mirroring each other's faintly anxious toeing in in the last panel. Adorably, it seems to me, though I am in my dotage and given to wanton fits of doting. Also, one would have to adore Bubbles as one would adore a giant idol, the Juggernaut perhaps. That would be socially awkward.

The next obvious challenge to Faye is how some people (biological and synthetic alike) will react to her new relationship. Her friends will all be happy for her; those who present themselves as 'community leaders' possibly less so.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it unlikely, though I think they'll have plenty of problems to overcome even without the booze coming into it. Faye has plenty of unresolved shit from Angus. She's terrified of people leaving her, and I imagine that, especially after the breakup with him, that deep down she feels it's her fault that they leave.

Have QC characters always been so expressive with their hands, and I just never noticed? Faye doing the "forefingers together over the chest" thing, Bubbles doing the "hand over the heart" thing, and now Bubbles doing a "palms together, pointing downward" thing like some charming unintentionally supervillainy gesture... I love it!

For the record, I have no luck with wooden-framed beds at all - I go through the slats pretty much without fail. Then I got a metal-framed bed with no wooden components at all and I have had no further trouble! Of course, we're talking Faye and Bubbles here, so it is quite possible that they'll end up throwing together a Scrapheap Challenge-style monster that will look more like something out of Mad Max than a place of rest!

'Need' and 'Want' are different things, though. I'm pretty sure that the AIs' world is strewn with psychosomatic desires that mean they need to borrow human behaviours for the sake of their mental and emotional health. I broke two Ikea bedframes before I said enough and built my own out of 1.5 inch steel pipes. 3 pipes under the platform mean, conservatively it can handle 1.5k lbs. Going to 2 inch pipe and and/or adding a fourth pipe you could make one that can handle close to 2 tons. $500 - $1000, and you can hide under it in an earthquake.

I am very sympathetic. About a week ago I sat in a plastic chair in the outside dining space of my favorite restaurant. It collapsed under my 270 lbs. Now when they see me coming the get a chair with a steel frame for me. I try to appear grateful but it is a bit embarrassing.
