What's fascinating to me, looking at those older references, is how much Jeph's art style has changed even since 2016. I had it in my head the art's been pretty similar for like the last 10 years, and it's crazy how much it's NOT.

How my brain works department: this is a very funny comic. I really appreciate the callback, too. However, a part of my mind is thinking, "Momo should really stop saying her internal narrative out loud, like in panel 1. Random strangers on the sidewalk don't need to know about May's behavior." (Austin Powers joke in 3, 2 1 ....)
