The linguistic "diminutive" doesn't refer to the length of the word though, but to particular endings and the words made with them to indicate smallness. In English, such endings include -et and -ette (piglet, dinette, cigarette, diskette) as well as -ie and -y (doggy, bootie, Bobby, Debbie). So Yaaaaaaaayette is a diminutive of Yaaaaaaaay, Yay is a hypocorism, and Yayette is a diminutive of the hypocorism.

"Diminutive" would be a more appropriate word for the shortening of "Yaaaaaaaay" to "Yay". A "hypocorism" is a pet name that is generally unrelated to one's given name... for example, "Spookybot" is a hypocorism (but for pet names, I personally prefer the word "sobriquet").
