I suspect that Jeph is keeping quiet about just what Brun's condition is deliberately, so that people who are like her can identify with her and people who aren't don't feel that someone has misrepresented them. This is mere speculation on my part, but it seems like a sensible sort of thing to do. Seems to me that Brun already has a protective friend: Renee. They play off of each other well, because Renee is in full possession of all the social perceptions and skills that Brun lacks. Renee is just about as graceless, forthright, and direct as Brun, but from impatience, not from having a social blind spot. I like them and the way they are together.

That spelling error in yesterday's comic didn't get fixed. "Thst".

I'm not sure Jeph has ever said it specifically, but I've assumed for a while that Brun is on the autism spectrum. High functioning, but her trouble reading people, difficulty with change and her obsession with the order of timekeeping devices sort of point that way. I'm not sure she could afford an Anthro, but she could use one. May isn't technically Dale's. She's plenty rough, but I think she'd be protective of Brun.
