Just in passing, I would love to be able to turn down my dermal sensitivity sometimes. It would be nice to turn hearing and smell down at others. In fact, sometimes it would be nice to have the world rendered as wireframe illustrations, labels, and text blocks. There is a guy in an old Joanna Russ sf novel who has a helmet that does something like that. It always sounded good to me. The two times it would be useful would be around people with low signal to noise ratios, and around charming, attractive people who you were trying to evaluate for something other than charm and attractiveness. Come to think of it, it would also be useful around unpleasant, ugly people who you were trying to evaluate for something other than charm and attractiveness.

Does American Law allow for unpaid apprenticeships? I guess maybe on the paperwork he'll just call her an intern or something, but unpaid labor is setting off warning bells for me. If they want to do this for free they can do this on their personal time, without The Boss collecting all the profits.
