At the risk of sounding like I just walked out of a meeting, I really relate to this. When I stopped drinking I was afraid, more than anything else, that I wouldn't be able to take being in a bar anymore (I play in bands, and bands play in bars. If you can't play bars, WELP.) It turned out to be easier for me than it was for Faye... but it could have easily not been. The relief of learning I hadn't lost most of my friends and my creative outlet on account of my screwing up with booze can't be overstated.

I think this is a “call your sponsor “ situation. Learning to not-drink in normal social situations is a really important step, and reaching out for support is important for it.

Faye is probably not a terminal alcoholic who must abstain entirely forever, because there just aren't that many of them. They exist. I have watched a fair number of them drink themselves straight into the grave. They are the exception. Most problem drinkers can eventually learn moderation. Going to a bar intending not to drink and walking out drunk is no kind of a path to moderation, though. On the other hand, losing contact with your friends because they all still drink and you are scared to be around drinking is a very hard way to go. I'm not sure what Bubbles should say. I am pretty sure she will say the right thing. I wonder what it will be.
