A Discerning Palate

Not a fan of beer. I like some IPAs which don't taste like like beer but I'm mostly a whisky/bourbon type (on the rare occasion I actually drink anything).
I became a patron so that I could come here and say that this comic made me snort-laugh, and I shared it with all my friends, even though I had to do a lot of backstory explaining.
Waffles the Mooose
OK...so IPAs smell like pissing mansplaining men in a freshly-mown field. It makes sense, actually.
Patrick Jackson
I am with bubbles on IPAs!
The Shadow's Lair
love it
Some Ed
And would continue to sell even after it came out it was named that because of an integral part to how it was made. Despite this truth in advertising, the FDA or the ATF would shut it down, however. Possibly both.
Katherine Prewitt
Me too! I have always hated Martin’s palate!
Daryl Sawyer
lol, yeah, that's the impression IPAs give me, as well.
I... I guess I'll drink something else then. o.O
Joe
I am a very serious beer geek, retired professional brewer, beer writer, competition judge, and would be more involved in the industry if I didn't have liver problems that severely restrict my consumption (the irony is palpable, is it not??). I know people who would be EXTREMELY offended by that closing panel (mostly because it was too descriptive of them). I personally think it is one of the most hilarious things I've EVER seen!! 😂
Matt
I think the "I cannot get him to stop without resorting to violence" is implied here
Jim Feldman
Does that make IPA's the beer of the patriarchy? I LIKE IPAs but more the west coast variety as opposed to the super high IBU styles. Pliny the Elder is pretty heckin good but I'm no fan of Sierra Nevada's IPA.
Vince Averello
I love stouts & porters but IPAs are like drinking lawn piss
Vince Averello
I usually just say 'lawn clippings' but Bubbles really nailed it with the addition of urine & mansplaining. I guess IPAs are a young douchey man's game :)
Matt Grayson
"I cannot get him to stop" is not something Bubbles often says.
Evgeniy Semyonov
Were you drinking the IPA at the moment?
Derrik Pates
6.66% ABV. Nice.
Derrik Pates
Hahahaha, I like beer, but not IPAs, and... that is just perfect. Thank you, Jeph. Bubbles. Whoever.
Churchill (formerly TeaBear)
I'm not a drinker, so I have to take Bubbles' word for it.
Dev
I'm so pleased. Bubbles feels the same way about IPAs as I do!
This is the best description of beer. Ever.
Anne and the Apocalypse
Bubbles is an angel, and also right about beer.
kaitou
Basically, it'a a brown ale. And sadly, yes, it has a limited number of states where you can get it. I attempted to make a clone of it once, dubbed "mouse dribble."
Philip D Jones
Is any one else a fan of Moose Drool? I found it on a trip to Yellowstone. Don’t know what kind of beer it is. It is very dark, but with a surprising light taste. It is distributed in a very limited area. Wish I could get it here.
Leonard Volk
That's the best description of IPAs I've ever heard!
Spinoff - Bubbles Beer reviews
Matt
Great IPA joke!
I can appreciate both. Fall, Winter & Spring I usually stick with stouts ( drinking a lovely 11% ABV Michigan stout as we speak ) but switch to IPAs in the summer ( my favorite being one I sadly can't get in WNY. Diabolical IPA from North Peak Brewing Co ... a nice 6.66% ABV with serious citrus overtones. The perfect summer thirst quencher )
Andrew Tate
Is the same, but there's a Highland cow in the field?
Lee Kinkade
?
EnterTheHero
Agreed. Give me a decent stout or porter any day.
David Howe
So IPA has a *built in* real ale snob? that explains SOO much...
Kevin Symonds
Sounds accurate to me, and I live in Bury St Edmunds where they make the stuff. Very malty smell, which is actually nice!
Ian Wolfe
IPA = over-hopped, GROSSLY over-hyped swill. Now a nice Scottish ale, on the other hand....
SpookyPenguin
That is the perfect description of IPA
JD
I hate it when my beer mansplains to me
Andrew
I bet if you named a new IPA "man urinating", it would still sell.
Waffliesinyoface
jeph Im friggin' cackling at the last panel
Milo
Now I NEED to know what are her opinion of all the other beers/ales.
giacomo vaghi
No. Great IPAs could be used as God’s existence proof to me. Bad IPAs prove that there’s no god and that some brewers just urinate in a keg and add some alcohol and carbonate.
awgiedawgie
Does it really matter?
Katrina Urmson
oh Bubbles, YES. So very much YES.
Bagge
I think I know the answer to this already, but... Can't get him to stop the explanation or the urination?
Harsh but true
Eric Burns-White
Weds looked at this, agreed solemnly, and said "or it's like bitters, which are like IPAs only moreso and louder. And with weird groping." And then shivered.
Alexa
Bubbles is spot on wtf
Samantha
I love IPAs a bubbles is entirely correct
Andrew Mitchell
TIL, so **that's** why I don't like IPAs.
Pete Hanson
She is most certainly not wrong. Especially the smell of an IPA.
Elf Sternberg
Bubbles is now my Avatar Of Beer™. I'm so with her on this one. I've never understood the Pacific Northwest's fetish that "If the bitterness didn't melt your tongue and pucker your butthole in the same second, it wasn't manly enough" bullpucky.
Hahaha, that last panel!
This is the greatest description of IPA's I have ever heard. A+++
Nobilis Reed (personal)
I'm with Bubbles. --N
Charlotte Grubbs
If it's a craft IPA, the urinating man also has a handlebar mustache.
Mike Robinson
The truth about IPAs.
Gary Walker
There's always pilsners. The beer that says, "Not only am I not going to explain anything to you, if you try and explain anything to me, I'm going to leave and I'm taking my beer with me."7
Gary Walker
Same. Hard same.
Brian
Agreed 100%. I still love good IPAs though.
BobC
Oh, gawd, it's true: I *do* do more mansplaining when a craft IPA is in my hand! Welp, looks like it's time to switch to lagers.
Brian
That’s, yeah, that’s pretty much accurate
TMN
Hops, ewwww
Kinda Squirrely
Hm... So that's what I haven't been able to put into words...
Hugh Eckert
I laughed out loud, and I *enjoy* IPAs. Well done.
z
A good IPA tastes great. The problem is, IPA seems to be used by most brewers to cover up the sins in their production methods.
Erin Hartshorn
LOL. My husband is going to hate this punchline.
I spit on my phone lol
Anton
Oh my god, this is how I feel about IPAs in my very soul. I love this comic.
Curtis Cahoon
Best description of IPAs ever haha
Justin Bean
no, that's totally accurate
Jono Hayward
Pretty much sums up all beer.
