Some people can handle things in one context, but not in others. Dealing with people on a personal level is very different to dealing with people in a working context where you have a clearly defined boundary and role. Then you have me, who just can't deal with people fullstop.

Clinton (like many introverted intellectuals) is always confident when it comes to a "problem needing solution." See him asking Brun about how she feels about Elliot, to solve the issue at hand. Unfortunately, that does not translate well to emotional situations, dating, respecting boundaries, etc. So while he has trouble figuring out how to handle Elliot's declaration of love, he has no problem noticing the pattern in Elliots talking, and offering a potential course of action. (Okay, this response is too long, and probably shows that I'm a "Clinton" lol)
