Most of the other adventurers were still asleep or just starting their morning routines. A few gave me curious looks, probably wondering about the crazy solo guy who'd broken the floor six speed record.
"Heading up already?" asked the administrator as I approached the staircase to floor seven.
"No point waiting," I replied, checking my weapons one last time.
"Most take at least a day of rest," they noted. "The next section is considerably more... intense."
I just nodded and started climbing. Behind me, I heard them making a note in their ledger, probably updating the "ways adventurers die" statistics.
The staircase to floor seven was longer than the previous ones, spiraling upward through darkness broken only by occasional runes glowing on the walls. When I finally emerged, I understood why everyone had been so dramatic about this section.
Floor seven was a massive jungle environment with towering trees that disappeared into a misty canopy overhead. Two lamias slithered from behind massive tree trunks, their human upper bodies armed with curved blades while their serpentine lower halves propelled them forward with alarming speed.

Not that being surrounded was a problem. It just meant more targets within striking distance.

The tenth floor was a single massive circular chamber, easily a hundred yards across, with a domed ceiling covered in what looked like stars. The floor was smooth black stone that reflected the starlight, creating the illusion of walking through space. And in the center...

Around this main eye, dozens of smaller eyes of various colors blinked independently, each seeming to focus on different things.
Tentacles extended from the bottom of the sphere, writhing in the air like they were swimming through invisible water. The entire creature pulsed slightly, expanding and contracting in a rhythm that reminded me of breathing.
As I approached, the main eye swiveled to focus on me. The smaller eyes followed suit, all suddenly fixing their gaze directly on me.
"INTERESTING," a voice boomed inside my head. "A SOLO ADVENTURER. HOW... UNUSUAL."
I drew both weapons, settling into my stance. "I'm here for the Charm of Ascension."
"MANY SEEK IT. FEW SURVIVE THE ATTEMPT." The voice sounded amused. "LET US SEE WHAT FEARS HIDE WITHIN YOUR MIND."
The main eye glowed brighter, and suddenly the chamber around us seemed to shimmer and distort. The walls melted away, replaced by...
Nothing. Just an empty void.
The Oculus's mental voice sounded confused. "WHAT IS THIS? WHERE ARE YOUR FEARS?"
I shrugged. "I don't really do fear."
"IMPOSSIBLE. ALL BEINGS FEAR SOMETHING."
The eye glowed even brighter, and this time, I felt a pressure against my mind, like something trying to pry open a locked door. Images flashed before me. Dartanion disappearing, my evolved sword shattering, Witch and Mayra turning away in disgust, my numbers decreasing instead of increasing.
I acknowledged them with mild interest, then mentally set them aside. "Are we going to fight, or...?"
The Oculus's many eyes blinked rapidly in what might have been confusion. "YOUR MIND IS... UNUSUAL. NO MATTER. IF I CANNOT BREAK YOUR SPIRIT, I SHALL BREAK YOUR BODY INSTEAD."
Several of the smaller eyes suddenly shot beams of energy toward me. I dodged the first two and deflected a third with the flat of my blade, then charged directly at the massive creature.
That’s when it shot me with another beam. Honestly, I could have dodged, but that would have meant losing ground. So, I made the decision to just… take it.

I didn't let it finish. I charged again, ducking under a desperate barrage of eye beams, and delivered one final Perfect Strike directly into what I guessed was the creature's core.

As it died, the world seemed to ripple around me, and the chamber returned to its normal appearance. A deep voice that seemed to come from the Tower itself announced:

"Was a Tower boss," I corrected. "I got its ring and the Charm of Ascension. Heading to floor eleven now."
"Wait! The safe zone on floor ten should have facilities to rest, repair equipment, stock up on supplies—"
"There's no safe zone on ten," I interrupted. "Just the boss room."
"That can't be right," she said, confusion evident in her voice. "Every tenth floor is supposed to have a safe zone."
I looked around the empty chamber. "Well, this one doesn't. Just the boss and now a door to eleven."
Another pause. "That's... not normal. The Tower is adapting to you somehow. Be careful, Chuck. If it's changing its rules, that means it sees you as something... special."
"I'll be careful," I promised. "Talk to you when I reach floor sixteen."
"Sixteen? Chuck, that's—"
I ended the communication and stepped through the doorway to floor eleven. The real challenge was just beginning, but with my dual wielding proficiency continuing to improve and the new Ring of Mental Fortitude, I felt ready for whatever the Tower might throw at me next.
If the first ten floors were any indication, this was going to be a considerably shorter climb than anyone had anticipated.

Caught up. Man, I don't know if you're writing alone or you're using AI assistance but you really need to work on consistency. Through the book and now through the preview chapters there are often logical inconsistencies, issues with system messages and various characterization problems. I strongly recommend you sit down and build an excel sheet for the system part and a full plot outline for the story before continuing, otherwise the "plotholes" will just keep accumulating and it will be a real pity for a story that has such amazing potential (and masterful usage of the english language) to be marred by that. You're writing a story about an obsessive numbers guy for an audience that cares about numbers in a genre, LitRPG that's defined by numbers. so you can't have wrong numbers. You have an amazing opportunity here to enter the hall of fame of stories about neurodivergent characters (Cerim's Hell Difficulty Tutorial & X-RHODEN-X's Stubborn Skillgrinder), don't waste it.
