tbh, i just can't agree that he doesn't sound bad... especially knowing how he criticizes his trainees (not even about just skz- he is so harsh on those little girls!!) and he can't even do half the training to improve his own vocals??? he can clearly pinpoint and strongly critique weak areas in other people's voices, so... why does he sing like that? i sing for theatre sometimes so i just... sorry jyp, not gonna go easy on you. idk, maybe i'm just too critical a person, but c'mon man. watching his performances makes me wonder if he performs like this on purpose. he's a business man over everything, and i always ponder if his performances are the way they are to attract attention (marketing)

This is JYPs brand. I think it’s just cause bts took a lot of the spotlight from western audiences, so no one knew much of JYPs history other than as the head of Twice and SKZs company. But he started as this, then created his own company. Nigel I think you should watch the early idol room episode with skz (https://strayksubs.com/180821-idol-room-%ec%95%84%ec%9d%b4%eb%8f%8c%eb%a3%b8-episode-16-full-stray-kids/) on your own time or with us (it is an hour long). But it shows off the JYP building and how in love with early modern artists like Michael Jackson, Prince, Stevie Wonder etc. plus it is probably a year or so after the survival show, so you can see the kind of relationship they had with JYP after all that and how much more they’ve grown since. You talk about older music sometimes and being an old person myself I like talking about it too.

Regardless of how you might feel about him, you still should be respectful, people might laugh at him and we may find this kind of things silly but the truth is that he is a very respected artist in his country, is rare to see people who have been in the industry for so long still have a valuable career, they love him over there, he’s an icon. I don't think it's that bad of a performance considering his age and the fact that he's not continuously training like other idols. He's definitely lost his vocal stability and stamina in certain parts but ngl he did slay the choreo imo. I do, however, think he was quite the hypocrite, judging our boys way too harshly when they were technically way better performers than he is or was. That being said, what's that saying?, "those who can't do, teach". Some choreographers aren't great at dancing but great at teaching others to execute great choreography. Some scouts or CEO'S have a great "eye" for talent but are talentless themselves. So I guess we have to at least give credit to JYP for having a great eye for talent and pushing his idols to be the best they can be. He is very talented in that aspect.

I gotta give credit where credit is due he did in fact do full live vocals - but for someone who runs a company and is very heavily involved with picking members for groups he needs to take a step back or apologize to some of these artists. I don’t understand how he can be so critical, and judgmental of someone else’s voice or looks, and then give a performance that anyone can do in their living room. Because the whole performance wasn’t bad, definitely wasn’t good. He’s done WORSE, which is astonishing, but he has the type of voice that any everyday person has. You can sound good but you’re not idol good and that’s okay, I just don’t think HE can accept that fact.

I don’t think he can debut with Stray kids. His vocals are too stuffy, and his lines aren’t big enough. While he definitely makes you watch him, he stands out and not in a good way, and I’m not sure his charisma is likeable to an audience.

I also don't like his sound as a whole. Never did, and ive been in this kpop game for a long time. If you enjoy everything he has to offer, cool boo! Enjoy! But he's not my cup of tea, whether he's a bigwig in his 50s, with a plethora of accolades or not. Eccentric is one thing; that's fine, have fun and express yourself. I fully agree - imagine any other idol giving a performance like this - they'd be verbally shunned into trauma, kicked out, and hanged drawned and quartered. Oh, no... 😭😂💀🤌 This is my very strong opinion on jyp as a whole: the man is literally SO rich, SO successful, & OWNS so many PEOPLE & rights.. he dgaf what people think of him. Personally, I dont think the guy can sing, dance, or produce. If ANY of his artists sounded or danced ANYTHING like he does (especially live), he'd word-whip them into submission and a major depression. But he has so much influential power; why would he care?
