For me personally, I also didn't care for Peniel with BTOB. I think BTOB as a whole are fantastic and I honestly haven't seen much of their stuff outside of Kingdom... but Peniel just wasn't it for me during Kingdom. The only time I really feel he nailed a performance was during Mayflie's dance routine.... I don't think he's bad, I just don't think he fit the mold with BTOB and the song choices used in Kingdom. That's all. He's still good, just... it didn't hit for me. :(

I’m only telling from what I saw in my experience. Because atz and tbz scored high in the judge and self vote categories MANY stay were pushing a voting strategy to block them. And most of the viewers in general were voting for groups they liked/knew and didn’t partake in voting strategies at all

This is,, not true. It's actually the opposite and Atinys stacked the voting against Stray Kids. I have the screenshots and voting guides to prove it. It's why they got 5th place during the intro. They stacked their voting for btob and sf9. I was on a voting team and the way to win was to even out the votes. If you voted for the same few people more, it raised their score.

That's not true though? That's not how voting worked in kingdom. If you stacked votes for certain teams, it would cause your team to plummet too. To vote during kingdom, you had to spread out your voting for each group. That's why Ateez got 5th in the second episode. They stacked votes for SF9 and BtoB because they hated skz. Source? I was on a voting team.

I think it's the system to blame, because Stays did the same thing during this time. Like this round they voted for Ikon and sf9 to keep ateez and the boyz down and it worked. And their fandom was way bigger than ateez at the time. It was just a strategy that all fandoms were using to help their group win. I don't think its right to blame one fandom. Its the way the system worked that made it like that. Like of course people weren't going to vote without bias. That's why this voting and "competition" was a joke, even to the idols. It just ended up being a popularity contest.

I agree..I am a Stay but I love IKON coz hip hop is my fav genre. and people don't understand that IKON has that hip hop vibe and they dive into the hip hop genre more than the k-pop. And hip hop is not about flashy perfromance but free spirited, in the moment, impromptu stuff. I mean underground rap battles and dance battles are the perfect way to show what hip hop is all about. They are not for the flashy stage performance. Even if they perform in stage , they will keep the core hip hop vibe

I hated the system, but atinys were really weird about the voting system. I was a very prominent voter for stays and even was apart of a voting team for kingdom and Atinys refused to vote for skz (because we have a rough relationship) so they stacked votes on the older groups instead of evening it out.

So for the top 3 in global rankings, when voting you had to vote for 3 groups for it to count so Stay decided to use their other two votes to push for SF9 and iKON so Ateez and The Boyz would be blocked from the top rankings. Stay were also a bigger fandom than atiny and deobi (the boyz fans) at the time so that’s why Ateez and The Boyz were last. If the voting had genuinely been objective the rankings might’ve looked different🤷🏽‍♀️

just wanted to say, imo im very aware that sf9 and ikon are really good and ive heard their songs and i love them but i think that for ikon so far they’re not being flashy or innovative enough to be on the same league as the others which is def not a bad thing in itself but its what’s keeping them low on kingdom. and similarly for sf9 but that’s different cuz they barely had a choice due to their schedules. i think it would’ve been better for them to come with a more relaxed mindset considering everything. and all in all kingdom was pretty low stakes so it wouldn’t have been an issue if they didn’t take it seriously at all edit: also what i came to notice (and i kinda already knew but yeah) is, the competition is basically who is the most flashy and innovative which imo is one of the reasons both groups didn’t rank high. they were great but again, i think if they are aiming for first they gotta be big

personally... i didn't like ikons performance at all, i like what they did to the song but you can tell the rest of the group was trying and bobby was not taking it serious... i know he's a good rapper but he did not show it all.. if i didn't already know who he was i wouldn't even think he would of won anything for rap

I feel the need to point out that stray kids look sad and stressed a lot in the clips because Hyunjin literally JUST got put on hiatus right before Kingdom started. He was even in the first episode. Hyunjin was so excited for kingdom and was looking forward to it the most. In my opinion you see all of them looking so sad in some moments because they wish he was performing with them. In regards to the rings they made, they made 8, one being for hyunjin and the statue of the boy in their performance is wearing it. This performance really symbolized their love for him and that they would do anything to protect him.

I feel the need to point out that Peniel from BTOB was a trainee at JYPe when Chan first arrived and he helped take care of him in the beginning and they’re still best friends. Like a lot of the pictures taken of Chan that get posted on his personal IG are taken by Peniel. They even went on vacation to Japan for Chan’s last birthday. I promise you he didn’t pick them to sabotage them. 😂

you probably won’t read this but in defense of sf9 they are not responsible for their schedules, their agency is. sf9 have complained to fans and have stated many times that they wish they were able to work more as a group, doing music like they love but since the very beginning their agency had them taken up acting roles and musical roles. now they are insanely talented at that, they love to act and do the musicals they were chosen to do but their agency sticks to that most of the time bcs it rolls in a LOT of money. it’s unfair to have this opinion on them that they should have taken it more seriously (i know this wasn’t your exact words but i saw other people say similar things.) and got together the whole time when they literally were not able to and had no say in it. and in defense of ikon, they are known for their free spirited performances and laid back kinda chill vibe. their label is famous for having groups like them, they don’t do flashy performances, they dabble more into hip hop and having insane charisma and stage presence. nobody does that better than anyone in yg entertainment. you see almost all the groups speaking abt how “ikon are ikon” doing what ikon does best. they are hugely popular for their energy and the way they interact with the audience and make everyone hype, they have never done crazy choreography. huge respect for them not trying to change their entire personalities and performances to fit in with the newer gen. they are respected for a reason and i wish ppl looked more into it before having a negative opinion on their performances!

Ooh thank you for this. I didn’t know much about ikon until watching this. It’s sucks that Yg didn’t help them at all after their leader had to leave. but I’m glad they found their way away from him. I like their performances here, none are bad I just think like you said they struggled with the creative side and did more of a freestyle which works for them cause they are really talented and enthusiastic.

iKON were struggling with the departure of B.I. and YG were not helping whatsoever with their career after that. There was (and still is) a huge dip since 2019 when B.I. left. They went on Kingdom to get their name out there again as a 6 member group and probably in hopes that YG will promote them again but clearly they didn't, and it shows considering they all left YG once their contract was up. It's very obvious this was a strategy being on the show, but they also are a more freestyling group and with B.I. gone, it was a detriment to their creative side (he was the one leading their unique choreo and such on their predebut shows). Honestly, i commend how much they were able to do on this show. I don't think they realized how crazy the show was gonna be with all the props and crazy choreo, otherwise they probably wouldn't have done it tbh. YG is not a company of insane choreo, their style is more freeform and presence.

Exactly. And it's clearly the same for some people in this comment section. I feel like people forget that K-pop wasn't always crazy stunts and extravagant performances. Older gens had easier dances and focused more on vocals and interacting with the fans. Not that I'm saying that all groups now don't focus on vocals but if you compare, it's definitely less than older gens. For IKON in particular, they've never been a group who does these crazy performances. They've always been free-spirited. Having fun on stage has always been their thing. Not doing serious or extravagant stuff and that's why their fans love them. Even in Kingdom, the other groups say after their performances, "IKON was IKON". Because that's their identity. Being free-spirited and having fun and just because now, so many groups have these crazy performances, that doesn't mean they should change themselves just to fit in with the current times in K-pop. For the global eval, I believe if a group doesnt have as large of a fanbase globally, it impacts their ranking. When this came out I dont believe Ateez was really well known globally. Because of that, they ranked low for global eval. At least that is my interpretation of it.

The way that they were ranked and evaluated was so unfair tbh. the self evals and professionals were great, but the fact that half their score relied on fab voting was super unfair. a lot of the groups have vastly different fanbases, so their ranks were more so based on their popularity rather than actual performance ability. i’m a huge fan of both stray kids and ateez, but comparatively skz are WAY more popular than ateez, especially in korea, despite being very similar talent-wise (in my opinion). groups from the big 4 companies (JYPE, YG, SM, and HYBE) are generally more known by mainstream people. it just goes to show how corrupt the kpop industry is :/ kingdom is great for the performances and interactions, but the unfair competition part just made it so hard to watch

as someone who went through kingdom (TRAUMATIC AF BTW🧍) what you saw in the end nigel was not all points combined, just the results of each category!! the global evaluation was extremely biased bc it was through voting only, it was done through an app called "whosfan" and you could vote for 2 groups only, as you can see skz is 1st, stays had the strategy to use for the second option a group that didn't have a strong fanbase for voting, that's why you see sf9 and ikon so high and ateez + the boyz low, no shade to any group or fandom ofc, we just wanted the kids to win lol😭 istg it was so stressful
