In this post I'll be talking about the Hide & Sex Album after reading through your feedback and reflecting back on how the Album went in general.
Tomorrow I'll post a way more sophisticated post talking about what to expect in the near future. From there on out things will start to develop way quicker again. So stay tuned on that!
Post Mortem
The whole bottom line of the Sexfluencers Season and the first Album that came with it was that I wanted to try something new and daring. I wanted to experiment with a different style of releases and see how they go. One of the reasons was that I felt stuck in the 1 month cycle of albums which made it hard for me to experiment and try new things. I wanted to do longer Albums and take more time with them, but also deliver a bigger result in the end with less compromises. I wanted to not feel rushed to a deadline so that I can try new things at the side.
Some of the things worked out. For example, the Album became way bigger and had (mostly) no-compromises. However, even without a deadline it felt like a rush. Maybe having no deadline made it even worse because each month that it was delayed due to my "no-compromises policy" the stress of keeping everyone waiting became bigger. I basically ended up with the same stress and the same pressure but with no direct end in sight. In hindsight I realize that, while the album became much bigger and less compromised, I didn't feel like it made a difference in actual quality but even fell short in that aspect because of how bloated it became.
The feedback I got was mostly positive and I appreciate that, but there was also some fair criticism and I understand why.
The following is a mix of feedback and my own opinion: Some of the scenes, especially the important ones (the sex scenes) felt incomplete or short in comparison to the dialogue and story scenes. There was naturally a lot more talking than having sex. This is, I feel like, necessary to tell the stories the way I do - but the ratio was still off and the sex scenes fell short and probably even became compromised, even though I tried to avoid exactly that.
I believe that happened because I didn't have the big picture in sight. Up until the very end, working on this Album I had a very good feeling about the pacing. It was only a few days after the text-release, and after reading some of the feedback, when I actually took the time to read it start to finish (without working on it pic by pic) that I realized that it's off. Working on it on a daily basis and only seeing small pockets of the album didn't give me a good overview of how it's paced. Looking back at it now I see how I could've absolutely released the album as 3 parts no issues as the stories within the Album were separated enough.
Now what did I learn from it? Albums this big don't really work for me and this project. Having no deadline at all did the exact opposite of what I hoped it would. I became more stressed the further it went on. I didn't end up having any time to experiment with things at the side anyway, and while it provided about the same amount of pictures you would've usually gotten in this amount of time, it made these 5-6 months obviously feel like nothing happened at all for you guys.
The Good:
- It was nice seeing what's possible and including 6 characters into a single album.
- I learnt a lot working with DAZ and it's limits.
- I was able to put a lot of story development and character growth into a single album.
The Bad:
- The pacing was off and some critical scenes still fell short.
- The Album should've been split into multiple parts.
- The whole idea of: "No deadline = Less stress and more time to experiment" failed completely and the opposite happened.
Now I'm not saying that I'm totally disappointed about the Album. The whole idea just sounded better in my head in the beginning that it turned out in my own opinion. Another point is that I got pretty burnt out towards the end as working 5-6 months with the same characters in the same scenario is becoming really repetitive at some point. So I'm looking forward to some healthy change again.
As mentioned earlier, tomorrow I'll be releasing another post that'll be talking about what comes next. So make sure to keep your eyes out on that!
Lastly, thank you for sticking with me over the past 6 months. I know the waiting time hasn't been optimal, but also hope you're happy with what you got (and will get, soon!)
