I am glad for Katara that she didnt go through with revenge as that is not who she is and I am also glad she didnt just forgive him as is usually the culturally pressured thing for people to do. Forgiveness is not always required or necessary to move forward. For some people maybe but not for everyone and every situation. You dont always need to forgive people who harm you or the people you love to move forward and lead a good and happy life. I am talking from personal experience here. My father was killed similar to Katara having her mother killed and through my journey I have found forgiveness unnecessary for me to move forward and heal. I have learnt from others who have been through similar losses as well as some mental health professionals that forgiveness is not always necessary to move forward some things are unforgivable and thats ok.
