In prison

At first, the "cannibal boy" image—a myth created by journalists for sensational headlines—worked in his favor, helping to establish a reputation as a psycho better left alone. Girs did not bother to deny it.
He didn’t try to integrate into the prison community or become part of any specific group, preferring solitude where he could quietly serve his sentence.
Despite this, Valera was skilled at gaining trust, willingly helping and fulfilling the requests of his cellmates. Soon, the "cannibal boy" reputation gave way to the image of an ordinary, pleasant guy who seemed to exist outside the usual prison dynamics.
He didn’t cause problems, and no one caused problems for him.
Many inmates were drawn to Girs’ intelligence, often seeking his advice and, at times, foolishly confiding overly personal details about their cases and affairs. However, Valera’s advice always proved useful, helping others solve their issues. He even occasionally provided legal consultations, as he had a solid understanding of the law.
During this period, Valera even made a friend, Zhdan—a similar "out of the game" type who was genuinely interested in Girs’ personality.
Overall, it can be said that Valera felt better in prison than ever before. He was respected, taken seriously, and free to manage his own time. Paradoxically, in prison, he found a sense of freedom, no matter how ironic that sounds.
