prison administration

A boy from an intellectual family who doesn't know the ins and outs of the criminal world, yet all the troublesome criminal elements in the form of other prisoners entrust him with their deepest secrets. No one sees him as a threat, and in his presence, they aren't afraid to conduct business; Giers doesn't care about other people's affairs. A goldmine.
At some point, Giers was offered comfort in exchange for information. He would spill everything he knew about the other inmates, observe, and extract details. In return, the administration would give him better conditions, protection, and maybe even early release.
It was the perfect offer for someone who wasn't planning on building a criminal career and didn't care about his reputation in criminal circles. For someone who just wanted to serve his sentence, get out, and forget it all like a bad dream.
Giers agreed to the deal.
Zhdan knew that Giers was now gathering information, but frankly, he wasn't really interested.
