You could say that over time, Valeriy's life became easier because the especially hostile guys had left, and new prisoners came who Girs just tried not to catch the eye of.
He was still at the bottom of the hierarchy, but with the change of people, it became easier for him, and the information about who Girs was didn’t spread much among the newcomers.
Valeriy became more withdrawn, trying not to draw attention to himself, quietly waiting for a transfer to the adult colony. This could have been the start of a new, calmer life for him.
Girs wanted to hide his status during the transfer; it could save him in the following years in prison, but if the truth came out, they would kill him. For something like that, they kill, and Girs knew that for sure. But he was ready to take the risk.
The transfer to the adult colony could be a ticket to a better life or a death sentence.
Before the transfer to the adult colony, Girs's health significantly worsened—he lost his appetite, had headaches and dizziness, and often felt nauseous. He attributed all of this to stress and nerves, as he was about to risk his life by hiding his past in the new colony.
Overall, there were plenty of reasons for his poor health, from a cold to poor-quality prison food and a lack of vitamins, so the deteriorating state of his health didn’t worry Valeriy too much.
The transfer process included a medical examination.
