About Tech Build and New Year wishes for all!
🕑 Added 2018-12-30 23:13:59 +0000 UTCWarning! There are a lot of words =)
People who are not familiar with dev process of 3d games asking me about why do we need to have this tech build. Some of them canceled their support but left a feedback like this - i thought you'll release game within first ever build.
Well, we wanted too. But we didn't. Because of some reasons.
One of them it is not a best way to start a serious game development. It's not an 2D game. And it's not a walking simulator.
Just kidding. Some of them could be difficult too, and i'm talking about 2d.
The only constant is any dev should starts their game with understanding what they can do, and that they don't. It’s important.
Making games are magical, but they don’t come out of thin air.
Here are some of our dev stages—each with their own subdivisions of tasks and labor—that should be included in our production process if we want to ensure a steady, fruitful game development.
The first is to make a business plan and understand how much money and time it takes. How many people need in the team to provide an effective workflow etc.
Second is to make GDD (game design document) which include characters and story, level design and gameplay, ui etc.
In most cases, this should be enough to make a decision, start it up or not.
In brief, before starting to develop any game, we need to spend a lot of time for pre-production stage. Only after that, we can start to actually work.
Nowadays, Tech demo is something very important for every dev team. It's more than level for testing assets. It should show how the game will look, you can feel the atmosphere, to show how the game mechanics works, how character moves, what level of quality we will deliver. How it was previously you can check it here:
That's why we did game tech build this way. And tech demo release was in our road map from beginning.
None of the shown features are considered to be final. Even characters. Even beer bottle.
This December was a full of hectic time events, preparing to Christmas Eve, The New Year, meeting with my wife's parents=)
But we did all the best to finish first tech build in time. It was my responsibility to make it happen. How the things will go in the next month, I’ll tell you next time.
I'm from Poland and my editor is on vacation, so sorry if I’ve made some grammar mistakes. I've tried.
This New Year, I would like to wish you all the best. May health and happiness follow you and yours throughout the year to come.
Thank you for your support. More great things to come!
Happy New Year!
