531 HxH: The Strongest Assassin
🕑 Added 2025-06-08 05:03:01 +0000 UTCAt first, Kaizen didn't think too much of it.
Back when Hunter x Hunter ended, his strength was still just ranked at B-level.
So, the feeling he had at the time made sense.
Kaizen was a B-rank.
His teammates were mostly B or C rank.
It was a reasonable setup.
But once his physical body advanced to A-rank, everything changed.
Kaizen, Natsu, and Sasuke Uchiha—three full-fledged A-ranks.
Chitong, Killer Queen, and the Lantern Ghost were still at B-rank.
On the surface, it didn't look like Kaizen's progress was especially fast.
He started learning aura at nine years old.
Now he was over sixteen.
That's more than seven years of training.
Tessia took just over three years to hit B-rank.
Kurapika learned aura and managed to take down Uvogin of the Phantom Troupe in less than a year.
Killua and Gon made huge strides not long after learning aura fundamentals.
And that's not even getting into the chimeric ants, who were terrifying from birth.
So, was becoming an A-rank user at sixteen impressive?
Absolutely.
But was it genius-tier?
Maybe not.
There are plenty of people who've pulled that off.
But Kaizen wasn't like other prodigies.
He was a Psyche.
To put it simply—it's like playing an online leveling game.
Other aura users focus on one account, one character, grinding XP.
But Kaizen? He's leveling up multiple characters at the same time.
That's a whole different level of difficulty.
You can see it in direct comparisons.
Tessia needed three years to reach B-rank.
In the Kingdom of Fiora, Wendy and the others probably hit A-rank too.
But Kaizen's Natsu outpaced them.
By that logic, Kaizen's growth rate was actually very fast.
Back then, he was already stronger than Wendy.
Now? The gap had only grown.
...
"Though we're on the Human Continent now, Siper and Sally are still useful here,"
"But once we head for the Dark Continent... their power won't be enough."
Kaizen was already planning a journey to the Dark Continent.
Tessia, Nina, Ponzu, and Shizuku could still contribute on that front, so he intended to bring them along.
...
"Kaizen, can you tell us what you've been up to lately?"
"And you said you have plans for us... what kind of plan is it?"
"Is there anything we can help with?"
"You've done so much for us, Captain. We haven't really done anything in return..."
If it weren't for Kaizen, Nina might still be a monster... or dead.
Shizuku would likely still be stuck in Meteor City.
Sally had been picked up by Kaizen too.
If not for him, the Shadow Beasts would've killed her a long time ago. Who knows what she might've suffered before that?
Sally didn't remember any of this—her memories were gone.
But even in Kaizen's fabricated memories, he had given her everything he could.
Without Kaizen, Tessia wouldn't have even awakened as an aura user. She'd probably have been sold off by Red Trang.
And Ponzu? She had only just been taught the basics of Nen—but even that was a huge deal.
Kaizen had helped them. All of them. A lot.
...
But right now, he didn't need Nina and the others to do much.
He just needed someone to keep an eye on Killua while he trained with Silva. So he asked Sally and the others to cover that.
Still, that wasn't how Kaizen saw it.
Forming a team, for him, was an investment.
Not every investment pays off immediately.
Some lose value.
Some grow over time.
Siper and Sally had limited potential, sure, but others in the group had shown rapid growth—especially Ponzu.
She started with a C-rank ceiling.
After fusing with the Queen Bee, her potential rose to B-rank.
If Kaizen could get his hands on Oster's research results, she might even reach S-rank.
...
"If you're willing to stay with this team for the long run, that's already the greatest reward you could give me," Kaizen said, pausing before continuing.
"I built this team because in the world of Nen, going solo isn't always the best option. Teamwork is necessary.
"There's too much out there—too many mysteries, too much danger.
"No matter how strong someone is, there's always a limit.
"A well-balanced team can reach higher heights than any lone fighter.
"Truthfully, I formed this team for selfish reasons...
"Because this is the life I want."
...
He let those words settle before continuing.
"But that doesn't mean this is the life you want.
"Maybe you never wanted to get involved with Nen.
"Maybe you just want a peaceful, ordinary life.
"Maybe you hate training, hate fighting.
"But even so, you've followed me. You joined my team. You came to live this life with me.
"That's enough for me."
...
"I didn't set up a formal team plan before because our roster wasn't complete yet.
"But now, we're almost there.
"In the next few days, we'll do some joint training.
"After that, I'll pick a relatively easy target for us to take on together.
"Our first real team mission is about to begin!"
This step was essential.
Kaizen couldn't just throw them into battles against the Phantom Troupe or the Chimera Ants.
Against enemies that strong, one mistake could mean death.
And Kaizen didn't want anyone on his team dying.
...
Meanwhile, Gon and Killua's lives at Heavens Arena had settled into a routine.
They fought one match a day, then headed over to Wing's place for aura training.
Kaizen's daily schedule was just as structured.
One part of his day was spent helping his team train and build teamwork.
The other was focused on Fiora—keeping up communication and checking in on progress.
He was about ready to move forward with his comic platform plans too.
As long as the project remained stable, the sooner he could launch it, the better.
...
Kaizen pulled out his phone, found Wendy's number, and hit dial.
