"I guess you can take over Aneko's and Sueko's work if they aren't available. I assume correctly that as a battle maid, you still know what to do as a maid, right?"

"I would love to." She answered before bowing and then continuing to clean up Fubuki. She stood next to the door and waited until I was ready. I had always been a morning grouch, but only if I wasn't doing something fun that day or had some other responsibility. Most people in my past life as a human had falsely accused me of being a morning person, but if they knew I could just doze for over 6 hours after sleeping, they would be surprised.
Of course, today was the first step into my Isekai life, so there was no way I would waste the day staying in bed. Though even if I didn't have this goal, just having women surrounding me, willing to do anything I wanted, was enough to make me jump out of bed. Obviously, some activities were inside the bed, but that was beside the point.
Without further ado, I stood up and got dressed for the big day. I instantly turned my noble 'clothes' into the form of a 'low-level' armor with the helmet tucked under my arms, which caused some disappointment inside the stone-faced battle maid.
With my armor on, I gently tapped Fubuki's cheek to wake her up. Her eyes fluttered slightly, unsure whether she was truly looking at me instead of dreaming about me. She reached up and caressed my cheek before pulling away hastily after realizing that she was awake. A glance at my armor was enough to clue her in.
Fubuki quickly stood up and changed into her mage's armor we had prepared as well. A long cloak with a classic hood to give her a mystical look. The cloak was blue-goldenly and beautifully patterned, causing it to look highly prestigious as if she was a royal mage. A long white staff with a golden crystal at the tip and a purse with a chain attached to her belt finished her look.
It quite complimented my heavy, resplendent steely armor. My armor was accentuated with faint golden runes etched into the surface. The blue cloak gave it a royal feel to it. Not only emphasized our clothes, and our origin as nobles, but they also made us look like we were empowered by magic.
It just gave us a unique and already high-level look compared to the average adventurer, so we didn't have to upgrade it in the future or made us look like we didn't belong to an event from high society. It hopefully made it easier for nobles to want to invite us.
Yuri was still in her maid outfit since that was what she was and it was also her role now, so there wasn't really a need to change it. We were about to head out when I hesitantly put on the helmet, even if I still wasn't sold on the idea.
To be honest, I could have just gone without, but I figured it was best to not have everyone stare at me all the time. It was also to see whether the general good reception of the people around was because of my pretty privileges, the country's natives' natural disposition, or some magical influence I had on people.
After wearing the helmet, I glanced at Yuri and Fubuki, who didn't say a word and had a professional expressions on their face... After stepping out of the door, I was about to head downstairs when I remembered the woman we rescued. She should be awake now, right? My curiosity got the better of me.
I entered the room next door and found the woman with some normal clothes sitting at the table, fixating on the cup of tea that Sueko must have served her. When we stepped inside, we attracted her attention and panic rose in her before she calmed down again after realizing that I was her savior. How did she guess that with my armor on?
"Do you feel better?" I asked as I approached her. She opened her mouth, but no words came out before she suddenly threw herself off the chair and knelt down at my feet. I was stunned for a moment as I looked at her kneeling form before I pulled her up from her feet and sat her down at the table again. "You don't have to kneel; you don't even have to thank me. I am just happy that you are okay. Be well, you hear me?"
As my question fell, she hastily grabbed my wrist before letting go almost instantly, as if she thought she would dirty me with her touch. "... please," she said in a quiet, hoarse tone like she hadn't used her voice to speak for quite some time now. I knelt down on one knee next to her, so we would be at eye level to look at her.
She had dirty blond hair. She looked thin and her skin was pale. Her eyes were gray with a spark of something in them. Her hair had been minimally cared for by Sueko, though one could tell that it hadn't been cared for a long time prior. If she was well-fed and took care of her appearance some more, she would be a natural, good-looking woman. Just another piece of evidence for the standards of this world being rather high.
"You are free to go wherever you want to-" I started and panic in her eyes immediately appeared. "-but if you don't want to, it's okay if you stay with us." I glanced at Sueko, who was tending to the flowers in the room as if they were equally important to the traumatized woman that she was to attend to... Perhaps the flowers were even more important to her. "Just follow her lead. She will clue you in."
Of course, if she didn't want to leave, then she at least had to contribute to us. I stood up and patted her head twice before approaching Sueko and whispered to her. "She will help you from now on. Tell her what she needs to know and not anymore. Just the basics. Tell your sister what I told you... with the same words."
She nodded dutifully while holding her watering can, looking happy that I tasked her with something. Or was it because I told her to take care of something? Though I had said yesterday that she was to attend to her. She didn't look enthusiastic about that. Would she have been happier if I told her to tend to the flowers? Not that she needed any prompting...
Afterward, I headed out, and I felt the woman's and Sueko's gaze on my back. I should probably ask for her name the next time. It would be a bother to keep referring to her as 'the woman' in my head. I walked downstairs and then out of the inn/hotel.
I still attracted some attention, but less than I did the previous day. Was it because I wore armor in an inn that was primarily used for higher-level adventurers, so I blended in more with the regulars here than I would have as a regular noble sleeping in this inn?
There was no way to confirm this just yet, so I headed out and looked at the empty street before glancing at Yuri, who had been watching my every movement. She quickly realized her mistake and rushed off and got the carriage in haste. It didn't take her long for her to arrive with the carriage, though if she was a normal human, she would probably be out of breath.
"I apologize... sir-" I held up my hand to interrupt her.
"Don't worry, I understand. Your previous occupation was a bit different, so the new circumstances are prone to cause mistakes." I said as I noticed the stares we got from the passersby. She opened the door, and I got in with Fubuki in tow before she sat at the front to guide the horses.
After arriving at the guild, we directly headed for the board with all the quests on them. There were some other people here looking at us as well and making some space, so we could take a look too. Though it was mostly because our armor intimidated them before they saw our copper plates. They stared at us for a moment longer as if they were conflicted about whether to show their seniority before deciding to not bother us and continued to look for a job.
It was early in the morning and there were quite a few people spread around in the lobby. If what he said yesterday was true about most adventurers working beyond the wall right now, it must be packed normally. Either way, I would know soon anyway.
I skimmed through the quests for a moment, trying to memorize the symbols of the quests before activating my spell to translate them. It was something easily noticeable at this moment, but my memory was seriously heightened. Perhaps my intelligence was too and what better way was it to learn a language than by simply looking at some writing? With my spell acting as a translator, I would even make sure the translation would be accurate.
A sweep through the quests and I instantly sighted the quest I was looking for with other standard quests. An extermination quest for goblin -goblin these nutz-. I took two papers off the board and headed towards the reception, where I found a woman in their late twenties sifting through some paper. "Do I need to formally accept an extermination mission, or can I also just kill some goblins and turn their ears in for the reward?"
She stared at me and barely widened her eyes at the sight of my armor. Looks like she had seen all walks of life before. She then glanced at the goblin quest I had placed in front of her. "These are targeted extermination missions because they had been seen in the surroundings of some villages. We don't have permanent missions, though we will pay for any dead demi-human at market price. With proof, of course."
Her words about killing demi-humans were callous at the very least, but it was understandable after growing up in such a biased environment. Not that most demi-humans did anything to subvert the hostility. On the other hand, one couldn't blame them too much, either. They were essentially carnivorous, being hated for liking the taste of meat. Not to mention their hate must have accumulated toward humans as well.
"I see. Can I take multiple quests as well?" She looked at the other paper I placed next to the goblin quest. It was an extermination quest for wolves.
She nodded her head. "Of course. Some adventurers take multiple lower-leveled missions in the same area. Though usually it is frowned upon since it's essentially 'stealing' the jobs from the lower-leveled adventurers." She emphasized the word 'stealing' with air quotes. "I would normally suggest taking on only one mission for newbies or generally for missions of the same rank as oneself, but with your armor, you should be able to take on more of these copper missions without dying easily and if you have trouble with something like that... well, it would be a good reality check for you."
"Right... thanks."
"You are welcome. Hope your armor holds true to its looks." She was really causally with the idea of me dying. I couldn't help but shrug. Different culture, I guess. I asked some questions about the general directions of the area these two groups were sighted in before we went outside and I handed over the information about the quests to Yuri.
I then opened the door for Fubuki and guided her inside the carriage which Edan was still sleeping inside of or did he sleep in it Again? Either way, we then casually headed towards the exit of this fortress city. They did not stop us from exiting since there was currently no one being warranted for, so they were less willing to care about someone exiting the city. Of course, the same couldn't be said for the ones entering. Most of them were being checked if they were unknowns.
The moment we rode out of the bounds of the city walls, I stepped outside and sat with Yuri. My actions didn't attract any attention besides some glances, but most seem to take my actions as common, which it was. There was no carriage around being guided by just a maid and no one to protect said carriage.
Fubuki wasn't having it and followed me out after creating some distance toward the masses. She sat beside me... Why exactly did we take a carriage with us if we were all sitting side by side in the coachmen's seat? Wait, were we chauffeuring Edan?
And why was I now holding the reins of the horses and guiding them? I didn't know how to ride horses! I only knew how to ride tigers and he was in the back! Not to mention, there was enough place to sit comfortably on this bench. These two women could at least give me some breathing room.
Their expression didn't even change, as if it would make me oblivious that they weren't willing to give up an inch of room if it meant being further away from me. Seriously... I really loved this. Too bad I was inside the armor, so I couldn't really feel their bodies clinging to mine. Why didn't I go out naked…
We continued our way for some hours through some spacious forest parts. There were some animals that popped up their head from time to time, though never exposed themselves for long. With our relentless horses, we arrived fairly quickly, even on the carriage-unfriendly trail.
The village appeared in the distance, and I knew we would only be away for 10 more minutes. There were some villagers observing us from the fields, but they quickly returned to their work. They kept an eye open on us with their farmer tools ready, though their wariness and readiness didn't seem to be directed at us. Instead, they looked hopeful.
We hadn't even arrived, and soon an elderly man stepped out in the middle of the entrance gate. Presumably to greet us. Although I could see that the village was rather small, barely bigger than Carne Village, it still had an impressive stone wall to show off. He stepped aside after we got closer, and I looked down from the seat to talk to him. "I am here for the extermination quest for the wolves and goblins." His eyes wandered to my copper plate, and he frowned slightly before shaking his head slightly.
"I had told them they weren't separate issues! They have colluded with each other. I tell you; this is at least an E Class difficulty!" He said, surprising me a bit as I imagined goblins riding on top of wolves to hunt. How the hell did goblins tame wolves? Weren't goblins lower in the hierarchy? And the difficulty of E Class? That should be in the capabilities of most trained persons. So, iron plates would be indeed a better choice if it wasn't me.
"Right. Don't worry, I am only a newbie to being an adventurer. I can handle some wolf-riding goblins." He frowned more heavily at that and then scoffed.
"Don't haunt me if you get killed, boy!" He then told me all about them raiding nearby villages. The death toll was almost non-existent as they fought them off, but they still couldn't stop them from stealing some resources and some fields from getting destroyed. I knew I shouldn't be surprised when he told me they, in turn, killed some goblins, but I guess I should have expected it from a heavily militarized country.
He gave us their last location and presumably living area as they had sent out some scouts to look for them. "It is a rather open area, so you might have some trouble whether or not they fight you." With the location and that advice in mind, we quickly headed directly toward our first mission. We left the carriage behind as it was close enough and we couldn't really advance with it through the thicket of the forest. Yuri had to stay in the village, to her dismay.
After another hour, we finally arrived at a large tribe comprising wolves and goblins. I was about to unsheathe my sword when I thought of something and instead pulled out my spear. Without hesitating, I jumped right into the middle of the tribe and stabbed out twice at the darker-looking and taller goblin and the slightly more massive grey wolf.
The spearhead penetrated through their skulls with utmost precision. Of course, they died instantly, though their swift death attracted the attention of the rest of the tribe that was surrounding me.
They were instantly alerted, and I could see how quickly they assessed the situation. I didn't know what the cue was, but they spun around and dispersed in different directions, leaving me alone without a further glance.
