Warden

Giving Torfinn an apple or ambrosia would not be a guarantee to ascend him quickly enough to give him a meaningful amount of time. Besides, the point of Torfinn's spiel is that he's ready to die and doesn't want to linger, and that it's not his lifespan that's causing this mindset. He's old, ascending up a tier won't age him backwards, and most of his friends are dead. He wants to meet them again in the afterlife, so will refuse Leon's offer of power. Adding to that, Leon isn't exactly replete with ambrosia; he barely has enough for the needs of his Kingdom, let alone those of other places. Even Anastasios and the Grand Druid were basically the only people outside of the Thunder Kingdom given apples/ambrosia, and even then, they didn't get that much. Leon's using his most previous resources to build up himself, his family, his friends, and his closest supporters. There simply isn't any to spare for those in the Bull Kingdom. Honestly, I seriously considered having Torfinn be dead before Leon got there. I was undecided right up until the point where I wrote him coming out of the longhouse. I kind of enjoyed the idea of the gut punch, but decided that it might've cheapened Leon's mourning for Artorias that happened the following chapter. I figured I'd leave that emotional hit for Artorias, while having Torfinn remind Leon of the costs of outliving all of your contemporaries.

I'm disappointed in Leon. His nation has been trading with the Bull Kingdom on and off for over fifty years and he couldn't spare some apples and some thoughts for his oldest friends and allies in the world. I wouldn't have expected that kind of thoughtless disregard for the guy who blew up a city just to rescue the LEAST of his retainers. Not to mention: "I am weak, Little Lion, weak and tired. I would not delay my meeting with my Ancestors just to remain in the world as a weak old man.” Leon doesn't even think to explain that what he is offering him is exactly NOT to stay in the world as a weak, old man. Not to mention, he mentions being taken into the the heavens by a thunderbird. THAT'S LITERALLY SOMETHING LEON COULD OFFER HIM. Trip to the nexus? I just can't believe Leon went over half a century not sparing a single thought for his oldest friends and allies. Why isn't Paladin Roland stronger? His kid has literally been in Leon's presence for the past half a century. Can't spare that dude an apple? Jeez. At least the chieftain wasn't dead. I've been putting off reading this chapter because I figured that's something the author would do to us. That bullet dodged at least.

Excellent chapter that hit all the right feels. I can only imagine when he lays eyes on his father's tree for what may be the last time

Austin lloyd

Yeah this is my fav of the last tour chapters so far. I can really feel the nostalgia and fond recollections Leon is experiencing

Paul Whatever

Very well written. This chapter really manages to highlight some of the challenges that come with immortality. The Lord Protector had a chapter like this iirc. Remembering his sister and his friends. But this one hits way closer to home.

Tijay Arnie

Thinking about it, I was still a kid when Leon was roaming the vale

Bryn Thomas

Thanks for the chapter!

Hunter Joseph

Damn, I was hoping he'd take them with him. Friends will be hard to come by in the future and these are some of the few he can truly trust

Etez

Thanks for the chapter :D I thought that maybe Leon should put his "humble" beginnings in a forest, first with his dad, then complegely alone in nomansland down in writing for everyone xD or to his future kids and grandkids, lessons to be learned if you dont want your own future kids to have these hardships alone after everyone got killed cuz of the consequences of your actions :') The clan fell once, it can again if history repeats itself how it always likes to

Ruanzo

A happy, sad and sentimental chapter, but a good chapter thanks for the story.
