Very nice topic as always Bernth! One of my favorite is from a loved/hated guitarist (loved for me :)) Yngwie Malmsteen, Relentless, it's his story without filters and it's really motivating!!

Mars Capone

along the same lines check out Seth Godin’s The Practice: Shipping Creative Work. In a nutshell the book says success is merely a symptom of putting in the daily passionate work. I like that

Matt Wellman

I've had this one on my shelf for quite some time and just never seemed to get around to it. I'll have to pull it out!

Matt Wellman

Goggins book was amazing. I read it last May and was really helpful. He's a true inspiration.

I would recommend "Team of Teams" for bands or groups (musicians/mixers/mastering producers) - it is one of those books you might scratch your head on at first - but the information which is used a lot in the corporate world can do wonders for any "team" concept - where the parts all support the whole! Check it out! The books that Bernth shared are outstanding - I am completing "Compound Effect" now - "Atomic Habits" is next.

Goat Surgeon

One book is ordered, the other is in the cart for payday and the other two are on a wishlist lol

My personal book that helped me is Ninja Mind Control by Ashida Kim If you see this Bernth, please check it out.

That book has many great insights indeed.

I loved this video! I’ve listened to Atomic Habits and Can’t Hurt Me, definitely want to check out Compound Effect and the book by Jocko.

"Zen Guitar", by Phillip Toshio Sudo, is a book that I read about 10 years ago, and have read about 4 more times since. It's a remarkable outlook, which changes your relationship with music, from listening, to feeling. It changes how you approach your instrument. It changed music for me. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves music. It's super interesting and addicting, plus it's an easy read. It's one of my all time favorite books.

My comment to "Discipline Equals Freedom": It's ok to be ambitious and disciplined. But as Jocko describes it as a soldier is questionable. At some point it's no longer about discipline but about beating and destroying others. The only opponent in life should still be himself.

My recommendation: Drive - Daniel Pink. It gives a great insight in human motivation, and also how you can easily lose it!

Love your stuff

Thank you for sharing. I am eager to check these books out!

Scott Walden

I read Atomic Habits after your recommendation and loved it.

Robert Mar Lew

I really want more of this. I loved Deep Work, would really recommend it to anyone who wants to get serious on any aspect of their life.

I've read 1/2 of them already feels good man, feels good. I read Jocko's other book about leadership (Extreme Ownership) and that one was also an awesome read. I'll definitely pick-up the other 2 you recommended, thanks man!

Arvid Richter

I always look at these things with mixed emotions. While I agree that everything happens in the mind first and the right mind set is very important, these things are of no or very little interest to me. Maybe it's an age thing, but I don't feel like having or wanting to prove anything anymore. Sure I want to improve, but not with a grim determination and it has to blend in with the rest of my life, like working, or other hobbies than guitar etc.

I enjoyed this video, something a bit different to get inspired by. I have to say though Bernth nothing beats seeing your passion, enthusiasm and realism as it has certainly inspired me more than anything. Some days I feel extremely frustrated with my playing but when I look back over the last six months it's clear how the compound effect is true and I've really improved by following your advice and exercises.
