When is it making the story hotter, when is it making it more interesting, and when is it just dragging it out and feel like padding. I figured this kind of genetic engineering would have to be pretty pricey for a single welder, so I imagined this whole background arc where his ex offered to decline alimony if he just agreed to not see his son anymore. He refused, so she moved away, and started to decline the money anyway. He decided to put all the money into an account to give his son on his 18th birthday or something similar. Then he decided to blow it all on this tailor-made drug.
I would also imagine that a side effect of this genetic engineering was that his son would be immune to whatever is happening as the backdrop for this story. There would probably be some more benefits as part of the standard package, like wipe out any genetic disease. I kind of imagine the dad taking a sample from his son's toothbrush from an earlier visit.
Finally I think the son's real name is Jacob. I considered having that as a counteroffer from him when he agrees to this home PE thing. "Only if you call me Jacob". And then somehow have him acknowledge his name to be Jake at the very end of the story. None of that flowed naturally though.

Look at how sad he is. Knowing he’s losing everything he once was. But he was too smart and social isolated to begin with.
He didn’t know quarantining together meant me changing him into the jockboy of my dreams. Don’t worry the mental changes will ramp up soon and he won’t be able to resist how hot he’s become. That’s when it’ll really get fun.
