Black Summer - Red Hot Chili Peppers - ft. Collin Vodicka
🕑 Added 2024-05-14 20:34:39 +0000 UTCI hope you're all having a merry month of May! This song would perhaps would hit different in July or August, but it's already heating up where I am and I've been wanting to cover this since the first time I heard it on the radio.
This cover features the talented Collin Vodicka on the Irish flute and duduk, which originated in Armenia. Please check out his work here:

The art is mostly cobbled together using images from The Tübinger Hausbuch, which you'll find on the University of Tübingen's website. It's a really interesting book, and you can read the whole thing here: https://opendigi.ub.uni-tuebingen.de/opendigi/Md2#p=207
Would anyone be interested in an instrumental version of this one? I'm hoping to make a post with a few more instrumentals soon and I think this could be a good candidate. They actually require a little more work than you'd think, since the vocal melody needs to be replaced by something or it tends to sound a bit empty. But I enjoy the process and want to provide you folks with more of those in future if they're wanted! I'm also hoping to do a Q&A soon and just need to figure out the best place to receive the questions.
Best wishes and good health!

South American or European?

Perhaps, but do you know the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Did a Mexican swallow bring that chili pepper across the Atlantic before the Colombian exchange?

Beautiful!

The music by Ren has often been called "bardcore" because of his style of telling stories while playing the guitar. Of course that's wrong because we all know what bardcore really is :-) . But then I had the idea, why not give a Ren song the real bardcore treatment? I wonder what you coould do with his song "Jenny's Tale" for example.

Beautiful, as always. Personally, I listen to your music for your voice… so an instrumental version wouldn’t be of interest to me ☺️

As ever, beautiful. I for one would like to hear instrumentals, but my preference of course is new music from the voice that makes angels jealous.

Oh wow, interesting choice of RHCP songs! I particularly like it when you pick songs that use a little more of your chest voice / mixed voice. And your cadences are just *chef's kiss*. I actually agree with J.P.F. on how I'd rank material we get from you... but I also have a playlist of your instrumentals that is just begging for this track so... I think basically, you can't really disappoint us. :)

Amazing stuff as always. I used to be a huge RHCP fan but haven't really listened to their stuff in the last ten years or so. Your version is awesome. I think we would all love more of everything! But of course, time is limited for us all. For me personally I would rank new music #1 (because your stuff blows my mind), behind the scenes #2 and instrumentals #3. Assuming workload being equal. But if we get ten instrumentals for each original than that changes. LOL. More is more? Thank you for sharing your talent with us!

Totally understand! I often prefer instrumentals in certain contexts too. I'll see what I can do! :)

I would LOVE an instrumental version! Your voice is absolutely beautiful, but if I'm listening to music while working or gaming, lyrics end up distracting me. I've got a playlist with the instrumentals you've already released and would love to be able to add to it!
