Side Stories Poll - July 2024

Just because I don't know if it's the wisest thing to offer a poll that influences chapters so much. I can obviously choose which poll options I put out, but I think it's better just to err on every other month.
Hi, I'm tired. Possibly because I still want more time off. Possibly because it's too hot and I am dying. Here are my options. I think this poll should be one moving forwards plotlines not currently burning hot like Erin or Erin or Nerin. I am also trying not to throw in an option I think will sweep the polls like Lyonette or Rabbiteater. Rest assured, we'll get to them.

He might be involved in the major New Lands thread. The New Lands got a good chunk of early chapters this volume, and clearly will receive further attention. Toren might very well be able to have some influence over the direction things go there. Interestingly, Toren and Ylawes have fought before, which could end up being relevant.

I wonder how a conversation in the pavilion with Toren would go. Of course it would have to give him a voice. Also Erin would have to ask for him. Maybe in jest. I think that would be interesting.

It's the curse of Illvris. I love him as a character, but Pirate seems to have trouble getting his plots to go anywhere. I think it took him three chapters of mostly rehashing to build his anti-Azkerash army only to have most of it get blown up in Rhir. Turnscale plot distracted. Lost walled city plot derailed by absent Erins and distracted Lyons. Maybe he's challenging to write like Magnolia?

I miss Rags. She was a relatively central character earlier, but with the fate of the elves or whatever, and "Burn the playthings" her part of the story feels really weighted now. It feels like Pirate has to be careful with Rags, what with how far past easy and peaceful times are, when goblins imo really excel at the slice of life and "Whatever happens, happens, and happens again" shrug type attitude-aspect. Whatever chapter we get, I hope it isn't too serious.

Personally i think the turnscales plot is in dire need of new developments. Erin gave a super extra quest to ilvris and after that we havenât heard anything at all. Or youâve got hexel and his boyfriend, or salis. But we only always just get a reminder that plot is still alive without any actual progression or major happening. Compare that to how central goblins, antinium, necromancers, vampires â acceptance has been in the story, it really highlights how unseriously turnscale discrimination is taken.

I agree! I just wanted to comment that we hadn't heard from all of our stranded parties. Rabbit and Ksmvr and the rest should come first imo.

I agree with so many others--I'd rather see more Erin. But. Innworld has always been a land of OP leveling, where those over 50 have such stupid skills that they walk around nearly invincible. I love it because they tend to be so niche and ridiculous and amoral--a bit of a mockery of the very genre it's part of. Simultaneously, The Wandering Inn has done a great job of keeping leveling and skills as background to the actual story -- one of the many reasons I enjoy it so much. However, at some point soon, as we start to go up against the real ancient monsters (Old necromancers, stuff creeping out of the really bad gnome dungeons, Kracken, Roshal, Blighted Kingdom, maybe an Ancient Creler. The Witch of Webs. Again. Ugh), the power balances simply won't make sense unless not just Erin but all her friends are >> 50. I think we're going to have to see a dozen different story lines instead of just Erin's, and they are all going to be a little more hectic as people do start to power level. If they survive to the end of the story, all the central hobs are going to either be or be adjacent to [goblin lords], Lyonette is going to be strong enough to empower the Inn in the same way a monarch empowers their kingdom, Mrsha's going to do some massive consolidation into [ADHD Druidic Princess of Luck and Dumb Pranks], the Horns will be solidly Named Rank, The Antinium will need to actually have a chance against the dead Thing in Rhir, Tyrion will need another 20 levels to head campaigns against Roshal, etc, etc. I suppose this might be the book for it. Erin gained 6 levels in one go (albeit after nothing for a couple million words). Lyonette just took 5 levels in one night. One of the Horns is about to turn into a [Hero]. Ceria has a millenia old tutor coming to teach her whether she wants it or not... Should be fun, but I don't think it will really be able to have enough Erin in the process.

I have my favorites, no doubt, but honestly, I love the exploration of characters that at first I considered not inconsequential, but more background. I am constantly amazed at how Pirateaba is able to breath dimensions and life into them. I am voting for Rags, because I have a special place in my heart for her. That being said, I see the imagination flowing from the non-focused story driven approach. Who would have seen the simularities between Yellow Splatters and Numbtongue? Not I, but it makes perfect sense, the boning of a band of brothers who have gone through the trenches and horrors of war and can only share that profound experience with another.

Yeah only 3 Erin chapters out of 20 is a lot less than I would've liked this volume lol. I really thought we'd get a lot more of her, especially since she hit her capstone and is trying to discover more of herself now. I hope we don't have to wait for 10 more chapters before we get back to her :/

Iâm with you David. Was hoping now that Pirate is posting less often, we would get a more focused story line, and less interlude. All of these side stories are good by themselves, but taken as a whole gets tedious. You can skim through them, and you wouldnât be missing much.

None of the above. I'd really like the story to focus more on moving forward, and on **ERIN'S JOURNEY** and less on mostly or partially inconsequential side characters that probably don't need a whole chapter devoted to them. I do like rags though and I think it's been a while since they were in the spotlight - but to be fair, they feel less inconsequential than a lot of the other character options in the poll, and I could see them having a large role to play in future gobliny occurrences and critical plot elements.

Honestly, I would prefer more Erin. This volume has had dreadfully low Erin content and I would hate for it to be another one where she sits on the edge of the story in recovery after a traumatic event because *that already happened*. I would like more Cara, but I'm not sure that works when not everyone is caught up with the Singer of Terrandria side stories. So liscor-centric chapter it is! Though I'd be curious for a demon or antinium chapter or just 2k words of the blighted king reeling in rage after Nerrhavia kicked him in the balls.

I voted for Persua, Olesm and Rhir. Persua's redemption arc has been a long time coming and the pairing looks fun, even if it's just with someone going through a similar arc but was a bit less of a monster. But I feel like we haven't gotten any good growth for Olesm in ages and we haven't wrapped up the Hectval war. An Olesm chapter is probably also a Calruz and antimium chapter which would be fun. And I can't be the only one wondering how people took the events of the Solstice on Rhir. I want a check in on those Earthers! What do the newbie think of everything that happened? What do the original ones think? What did Tom think? Where is the hydromancer? I'll admit part of me expected her to get stuck with Erin. She's probably not dead but does the cowboy know that?
