I wish Pirateaba could do both, considering that more explanation on the hero class would be quite relevant to Tom's story, but Tom has not gotten proper focus since Volume 7, in 2020! Vote for the Clown! The horns are guaranteed their time in the sun, and this will be the last chance to see the Clown for a while yet.

@CaliGlory They are under escort and he seems to be trying to kill Tom off. It is in character for the BK to underestimate the rest of the world. My guess is that he his escort is killed off and he is rescued by the goblin lord, who then gets “driven back” by Forgotten Wing who “rescue” him from the goblin lord. (No active conspiring needed between the two: the goblin lord would benefit from the world being distracted by being at war with the BK and Niers benefits from turning the world against the BK as well as being the one to break the news or at least be seen arranging for someone more reputable to do so. He might even get Silvania’s help against jungle tails if he is sufficiently helpful.

I didn't like the Clown storylines early in the series, but Aba has gotten alot better, and this will only be an interlude (only like 30k words most likely) so I'm actually looking foward to a Clown interlude now.

I really want to read more about the clown, I think it's been long enough that it can be justified (I think a portion of the audience understandably seems to not like Tom). But hear me out, he's in the colored lands right? Maybe we get more info on all the weird gnarly fraerlings that live out there. Or more on the deathless as they are sort of tied to Tom, maybe a little bit about the demons and the humans that are with them. I don't know, I just enjoy reading about Tom. Thank you Pirate, excited to see what you come up with no matter what it is :)

The Horns are Erin’s, they’ve acknowledged that they are completely biased, which I think is hilarious. So I think you’re right, there’s no way pirates skipping out on their story. But I do think the other stories will eventually get written about too. What do I want most? I just can’t say no to the horns.

I like Tom because it is the best example of how a class affects the character. He starts as a socially awkward teen with good intentions, but gets lost in the nature of his class. He is poised for a redemption arc of sorts now that he is away from BK and the insanity (of a different kind) represented there.

Going for clown. Second choice would be Ryoka because she's been out of focus these days as the deuteragonist. Third choice is the Horns to see what the heromakers are about. Klbkch seems a bit aimless even if I do want to see him level, and Zevara might advance into the Izril Interpol plot but it seems a bit low in importance compared to the othes. Silver Swords is last place for me.

How in the world does Pirateaba do this??? I have thought the same: that it's a bumpy ride but also - the best ride. We're left for ages wondering what happens in these various groups and there's a ton of just rabid anticipation built up that goes to waste while at the same time - the level of anticipation never goes down. It's completely addictive and wonderful and I've never seen anything like it.

I'm imagining his story will get happier soonish. Both Erin and Tom are on the same continent now. I can't imagine that's a coincidence, and she helped him before. They have a lot in common too, just expressed very, very differently. I'm hoping the clown chapter is him slowly breaking away from the Blighted Kingdom. The princesses he was close to already are doubting the honor of their father, so it would be fitting for him to get his moment soon too.

Almost all of these sound enticing (the Clown is too disturbing for me) and . . . it’s becoming apparent that TWI has embarked on an audacious experiment in massively multiplayer non-linear storytelling — basically a MMORPG in narrative form. About 10 distinct character groups have received at least a novel’s worth of attention. At least that many plot threads and cliffhangers have been left dangling, many for months. Almost no plot arcs have been resolved (Durene’s, I suppose). The main character has appeared about as often as Volume 8, when she was literally a popsicle stranded in the lands of the dead. And four of the main arcs in the poll — we’ve abandoned the notion that these are “monthly” side-stories because now everything is a side story that runs for an entire month or longer — simply expand the POV focus still more. It’s exhilarating and bold and brilliant . . . and also jarring, fragmented, and frustrating. Pirate’s track record suggests that Innworld will stick the landing . . . eventually . . . but it may well be a long, bumpy, uncomfortable ride.

Ah, Tom. I hate those chapters so much. Almost as much as I hate Roshal chapters, and it’s for the same reason. What kind of wretched dead god thinks a loss of autonomy and Self is worthy of a skill which then continues to dig itself into the ground? [slave] is so awful. Taking bipolar disorder and codifying it into Skills and classes that further enforce being a prisoner of mental illness — bleh. But the story and writing— so well done. And I’ll read it with an elevated heart rate the whole way through if it wins.
