Team Assignment (II) [Chapter 16]
🕑 Added 2023-10-05 18:06:40 +0000 UTC“I can’t believe they allowed you to keep your name and named me Namaikina?!” Jira, or now known as Namaikina, spat out venomously, while particularly glaring nowhere before angrily tearing off meat from the chicken we had ordered. “How could they give me such a dumb name?” Namaikina continued to whine, but at the same time, she didn’t stop eating.
“Not everyone can be as awesome as me” I proclaimed smugly only to duck my head down to dodge the bone Namaikina threw at me. “That was rude” I muttered with a mock offended look on my face.
“Stuff it” Namaikina snapped before tearing another piece from the chicken. We have been at the Training Facility for six long years, so we decided to treat ourselves to a feast with the money we received from the Training Facility to take care of our basic expenses. The amount would have lasted for at least 2 months even if we had decided to splurge it without any care, so a simple feast wasn’t going to hurt.
Then again, Misa, or now known as Bakana, had promised to foot half of the bill, so we weren’t worried too much…
“I am with Namaikina on this… Fuck! They named me Bakana!” Bakana hissed before emptying the sake cup. We were still 10 year olds, but we were old enough to kill, so old enough to get drunk… Thankfully, the sake they served us was extremely diluted. An adult could probably drink a few bottles of this and not feel a thing.
“So, Bakana?” I asked, earning a glare from her. Thankfully, unlike Namaikina, she didn’t toss a bone at me. “Are you planning to return to your Clan compound?” I asked and a longing look appeared on her face.
“Yeah… It has been five years since I have seen my parents and my siblings. I miss them” Bakana admitted with a soft smile on her face before all of a sudden she grimaced. “Uh… I am sorry” She apologized guiltily.
“No worries… It’s alright. We were orphans, but N always took good care of us and since we never knew what we were missing, we never cared much” I explained while waving my hands in the air dismissively with Namaikina and Mukchina nodding along with me.
“I see…” Bakana muttered, but she decided to drop the matter.
Soon, we were done with the food and the drinks, so we finally decided to visit the Mission Hall to get assigned to our teams. I wanted to visit the public library to scour the newspapers from the last few years to know what was happening out there, but we needed to visit the Mission Hall today.
We had no idea where the Mission Hall was since the Mission Hall was a Shinobi establishment and civilians were woefully unaware of them, but a nice Chunin helpfully pointed us in the right direction. The Mission Hall wasn’t that far from the Raikage Tower and if I didn’t know better then I wouldn’t have suspected the building in front of me to be the Mission Hall.
The building was completely bland and unassuming… Most civilians wouldn’t even spare a glance at the building. Maybe that was the intention, I suppose…
We entered the building and made our way toward one of the reception booths… “Hello, we are recently graduated genins and we were asked to visit the Mission Hall to get assigned to teams” I stated politely. There is no reason to be rude to a random stranger, especially when they can fuck you over.
“For team assignments, please visit counter 5” The woman pointed me toward another counter. I hope the Mission Hall is nothing like the Government Offices from my past life. They loved sending you over to different counters for even the simplest of tasks.
“Thanks” I thanked the woman who simply gave me a nod before she returned to her work. Meanwhile, I started to head toward counter 5 with the others. “Hello, I am here for the team assignments” I stated and the woman sitting behind the desk cracked open a file.
“Name?” The woman asked and I answered. After looking for a bit, she stared back at me. “You are on Team Eta” The woman answered before glancing behind me. Bakana stepped forward and revealed her name to the woman with a sour look on her face. “You are on Team Nu” The woman answered. After that, it was Namaikina’s turn. “You are also on Team Eta” The woman answered while she gave me a glance.
“The two of you can wait in there for your third teammate” The woman said as she pointed toward the waiting room on the other side of the hall. We have to wait for our other teammate to arrive? That sucks! “You are also on Team Nu, the two of you can also wait in there” I was broken out of my musings when the woman revealed that Mukchina was on Bakana’s team.
That was the best we could have hoped for… After all, all of us were going to have someone we knew on our teams. The four of us arrived inside the waiting room and plopped down…
“Who do you think our third teammate is going to be?” I asked Namaikina. She was really happy to have me on the team, not that she was going to admit that, ever.
“As long as it is not someone with a stick up their ass, I am completely fine with anyone” Namaikina admitted with a nod of her head.
“I am just glad that I have someone I know on my team” Bakana commented from the side and I could see where she was coming from. An hour passed away in the blink of an eye, and by that time, a few more of our batchmates had arrived at the waiting hall, and all of them seemed to be waiting for their third teammates. I started to wonder how they were going to assign our teams.
Soon a Chunin arrived inside the hall, answering my questions. “Team Delta?” The boy… Yes, the boy. He couldn’t be any older than 15 called out. Two of the kids from our special courses stood up and walked out with him. So, they were planning to pair two genins with a Chunin. That was quite an ingenious idea, I suppose.
Soon, the Chunins started to arrive and the teams continued to leave… Then all of a sudden, an extremely familiar, dark-skinned woman, with purple hair tied in a ponytail, and golden irises. My breath hitched at the sight of her… Why the fuck was she here? “Team Eta” I completely missed her words, when she called our team’s name.
I was so busy gawking at her that I didn’t even notice Namaikina dragging me through the room… The woman noticed me and a teasing grin appeared on her face… Why was she here? The same question continued to repeat inside my head…
