Cascadia Rising

So rough, so difficult, so heartbreaking. I lost my mother after an illness for which she had a transplant and we believed that she would make it. But then things went horribly wrong and we lost her. Take whatever comfort in that you were there when needed by your mother and your family. Whatever your worries about coming back are little to nothing compared with what you have already gone through. You are stronger than you believe you are.

I'm so sorry you had to deal with so much, and I don't think it would be weird at all to post some comics on death and take your time processing things. Hope this year brings you more stability and personal time <3

I’m not sure if it’s a helpful comment—but back in 2019, my dad passed away from a really brutal fight with pancreatic cancer. I had to drop school, my art, and my life as a whole to help my mom with care. It was hell, and I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone—caregiver or the ill. I’m so sorry to hear of this. I’m uncertain of the relationship on your end. It was very mixed for me, and it’s so hard to work through. I’m glad to see you back! But quiet, heartbreaking solidarity on many fronts. I hope you can find time to rest and find what you need and want.

It's good to hear from you again, though I'm very sorry to hear about your loss and everything you've went through recently. Kudos for persevering through it, take your time as you work on processing everything and finding where to go from here. It doesn't seem weird to write on the subject of death or to share with others, and as long as it helps you it makes a lot of sense to do so. Looking forward to everything you share with us and wishing you and your family the best!

Verteiron

I've read your comics for over a decade because your artwork and writing fascinate me. I would love to see what you have to say about death. Go for it, says I.

aravioa

I kept thinking about you and your work while you were gone, and going back to it to see what more I could learn. You've made such an impression on me and has inspired so much of my own art and I'm so grateful for all the content you've shared over the years. Thank you, and please don't feel bad for disappearing.

LordOfChains

Regarding the comics involving death: If it helps, go for it. Sometimes it helps to talk with others about difficult stuff, and sometimes talking just ain’t enough. I am glad that you are back, and sorry for your loss.

Isa and Meg, the Namesake Team,

Sending you and your family love.

Fox Crows

All my condolences and good thoughts for you and your family. I am so very sorry about what you had to go through. I think you should feel free to post what you create—when and where you want to. Expressing yourself is definitely important. It doesn't sound weird to me at all. Wishing you the best and sending my support!

Heather Lee

This is your platform, please share what is important for you to talk about/process. We're here to witness and hold space. Your work is lovely and I am grateful to be able to support it!

We've been thinking of you recently, hoping all was well. So sorry to hear of what you've been struggling with; wishing you strength for what lies ahead, and sending gratitude for the many gifts you have brought to family, to friends, and to total strangers like us!

AK Barratt

I'm so sorry for your loss and that you've had to carry so much over the last year. Regarding the comics, no objections and no it's not weird! Personally I'm here for it all.

Brian Anderson

Thank you for sharing your story. I'm very sad to read about the loss of your mother under stressful and trying circumstances. You can count on the support and appreciation of many people who have enjoyed your work for years now. We're mighty glad to know we'll be seeing your new stuff.

Amanda Zito

Sending you strength, I can't even imagine. Making work about death to try and process is very beneficial from my experience so +1 for posting about it (with warnings of course). Wonderful to see you posting again, pace yourself, and know that we understand your self care and family comes first!

Condolances with your mother

Paul Cantrell

I don’t often post in comments, but I had to respond to this one. I’m so sorry about your mother. It is not fair. You are an amazing person. Your caretaking and your comics work both are the kinds of thing that make this world a good world. As a stranger on the internet who knows you not at all, but has long known and admired your work, I wish you the very best. Please keep being you.

J Wilford Neville

I'm so sorry. That all sounds very traumatic. I'm glad you're back to a place where you are ready to start posting again. That's a good sign. But don't rush yourself for our sake! I don't think it would be weird at all to post some comics about death.

Jon Guyer

Wow, oh, wow. I’ve missed your work, but had no idea this was why. I think if you want to post about death, then you should do that.

Stephen Quadro

Welcome back, we’re happy to have you with us in whatever way your comfortable being here.

StLOrca (pronounced Ess Tee Ell Orca)

Welcome back—I’m sorry about your mom. 2020 was just a crap cake with rotten tuna frosting, wasn’t it? If you need to work it out with your art, then that’s what you need to do. If you don’t want to show it publicly, then that’s ok, too.

Michael Bacon

My aunt passed from ALS months before my wedding. It was awful enough just from that kinship distance — it was of course brutal on my cousins. Sure, CW the death comics but by all means please post them.

normaschthewanderer

Glad to see you back, I remember first reading the Meek back in college and it's what got me into webcomics. As you can tell, I really believe in it, and I'm sorry for your loss. I have a family member who is sick too. (Gives you a hug in spirit)

Jonathan

We all have to sometimes take paths we hadn’t planned on. I know I have. The best thing to do (in my view) is to learn to accept, grow to understand, and face the future with open arms. Your news of continuing The Meek makes me smile.

Verteiron

I'm so sorry you went through all that. Just lost my father after years of dementia. It's hell and I wish you godspeed in recovering. Time helps.

Blue Delliquanti

Welcome back!

Robert Sulentic

Do what moves you.

Mallow

imo it would not be weird at all to post comics about death. it's your patreon at the end of the day, and if it's content you're comfortable sharing for one reason or another, this is an avenue for it available to you. glad to know things are starting to resemble a new normal, though, and i'm looking forward to the continuation of this short!
