One thing I absolutely love about your videos is that you share your expertise, but also share cool and useful things you learn when trying something new. It's such a great blend!
Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Smith-Clark
I look forward to seeing the mantle with the gold. Im not sure but gold leafing might be a better call though.
Kristina B.
Thanks for sharing the informative video. Your historical home is absolutely lovely!
Ann Marie Folmer
The care and attention to detail you give every inch of this house is incredible to watch. I've never found myself thinking "what a lucky house" before, but here we are!
Monica Shew
I thought you had done a stunningly awesome faux marble finish! We know someone who professionally faux finishes! My husband featured her recently in our efforts to restore our home! https://www.facebook.com/share/r/BPjBvYrdvm1iCq5f/?mibextid=iexibG

😍😍😍

I second the blowing bubbles idea I have seen it done on Raku fired pottery and looks similar. Or maybe a controlled heat (like a blow touch of some kind) to manipulate the paint before it dries
Molly Mack
The marbling could have been achieved using the blowing bubbles technique
Laura Chambers
It turned out stunning!

Sorry that comment is re: the painted marbling techniques.

If you're a fan of Cabana and/or Studio Peregalli they highlight and use these techniques/artisans ... reminiscent of Renzo Mongiardino.

A woman who paints and re paints and re paints a room just for the sake of a video is truly a woman who loves her viewers 🩷

Hello, Christine ! I don't wanna be a burden, but are there any updates on the new music's release? Thank you!
Elizabeth Hammond Miniatura
This is honestly one of the best rooms I have ever seen done. Perfection.
Rebecca Kettle
Amazing!
Tori
Hi Christine, I sent you an early birthday gift that I crafted to your PO Box! I got an email from USPS saying needs to be picked up by the 22nd or it will be sent back. Happy early birthday, hope you're doing well!

Here’s a house in the South that might be a great winter home https://theoldhouselife.com/2024/06/28/like-a-secret-garden-has-a-pool-circa-1947-in-georgia-250000/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR3GHaZFEHfsHJzzf-xJoGk8UBS5sJx7Y9o83RCOcpw_XSAvI3AvFFG_TlA_aem_MencRXE3dnPuAhKXvUj3Aw

I am amazed by that green marble finish!
Drea
Does anyone remember where she purchases her fake plants from? Specifically the palms. Thank you!
Kacy
The Marble technique may have been done with a very porous sea sponge?
Elizabeth Moss
There's a series of books called 'surfaces' by Judy Juracek. When I was in theater undergrad this was the go to for any research about finishes or, well, surfaces. Pre-internet they were invaluable. Basically, large coffee table size books with 2" square clear color pictures of anything you would even need to paint or draw in a scene shop. You might find that marble technique in one of those. (Scene painting 3, which I never progressed to, involved a drawing of a section of marble column, frieze, pediment etc and one of those images, to be painted shadows and all. Scene painters are amazing, I was a lowly prop artisan. Anyhow, I hope this is interesting if not helpful.)
Chris Matteson
The marble mantle looks art deco.
Tammy R Dowden
I've never understood why someone would paint over marble. You are a modern-day Remembrant with that paintbrush, ma'am! The highlights and lowlights on your medallion just set it off to perfection, it looks like it's always been there!
Sophia Z
The last layer looks like cobweb met lace LOL I do love it 😻 (I believe from what I can remember from way [way] back when, they might have used dish soap and the soap makes the paint float and creates holes. I don't know the actual technique but it looks a lot like that method.)
Racheal Jones
And I also don't understand why anyone would paint over marble!
Racheal Jones
Oh, I beg to differ! Arthur Buttons will be winning the Nobel Prize of Fun this year. :)
Lydia Rogers
You might try a fluffy ostrich feather to create the veining on the faux marble. I’ve seen people using goose feathers but they don’t create that delicate veining.
Gincredible
Have you looked into the library in the house? There could be a diary that mentions the redecoration of the room, why it was done, or note materials. (I’d guess the faux marble was part of a project with the birds.) And failing that, there might be an art book with mention of techniques.
Aunt Debbie Halloween
You were wondering about that spider-webby marbling technique - I think maybe they pulled/stretched apart some wool batting, dabbed it with paint and then pressed it on the mantel. You could try it with polyester batting to see if it works. I loved watching you transform the room with high/low light paint colors and the ombre effect - you would be a great set decorator. But I guess that's actually what you do!

Love it

This is beautiful! I was wondering if D2 solution would have worked a little faster for lifting the color in the marble? 🤔
Jennifer Treviño
I want to paint my living room but it seems daunting...then I see you doing all this! I can't be lazy now lol
Jessica Darne
I have so much fun watching your videos and really nerd out over the research you do! Art preservation was my first love (thank you Ghostbusters 2) so thank you for the warm fuzzies!
Jess Meister
It came out so beautiful! 😻
Kiki Reef
That ceiling.....with all that plaster work....and now with that really cool paint job......is so COOL!!!!!!
JenRayCreations
It’s so beautiful 😻 I’m always amazed at how talented you are.
Kris
The mantle turned out beutifully! The technique that you used for the walls and ceiling is beautiful. You can really see the various depth of color in the room.
Annalise
The marble was beautiful underneath. Can't wait to see what you do with the rest of the room.
Nicki
That "marble" painting method you uncovered.. it looks like "bubble painting." You combine dish soap, paint and water, You dip a straw, or a bubble wand with multiple openings, into the mixture and blow bubbles onto the surface. When the bubbles pop, it leaves a pattern just like the one you showed.
Nicky Bee
This was such a beautiful process to watch. I get so lost within each video, like I am transported to a different era with an old friend. Thank you Christine, for igniting so much fire in my artistic mind! I used to watch your Netflix show when I was pregnant, daily! Now my son indulges in it and at 2.5 he loves saying hello to the characters and hearing him say “oh hi, Cwistine!” Is the highlight of my morning! 🤍 hugs xx
Patricia Kelly
Beautifully executed as always. And were you wearing gold latex gloves? Girrrl...
Heather Hofshi
Gorgeous all around, and wow, your dedication really paid off with that marble!
Ariel Ash
Does the hydrogen peroxide mixture help with etching on marble as well?
Melisa
It so pretty!
Leslie Langenegger
That house and all its' past owners are thanking you for the wonderful job you're doing. The marble, the birds, the ombre effect...beautiful. You're going to have the prettiest craft room ever!
Lauren Carman
it's aching beautiful
Victoria
Stunning transformation! What a beautiful room and so glad you saved that poor marble, it must be so happy to be able to breathe again x
Brandon Grew
Christine, did you see this? I might have indeed been mistaken. https://www.buildingconservation.com/articles/marbling/marbling.htm
Sarah Bartlebaugh
Beautiful
Valerie Macias
Beautiful! As far as lightening up the the stone (or whatever you need to in the future), another technique you can try is using a hydrogen peroxide gel (I believe there's one called Retrobrite). You can spread it on, put cellophane on it, and then hit it with a UV light to speed up the bleaching process. I've seen 8-Bit Guy on youtube use this technique to restore old computers that have yellowed.
Chris Clarke
Glorious, please could we have another video of finishing off the room? I would love to see the final result
Kristin Rogersdotter
I bet, somewhere, there's an old paint technique book or pamphlet from a paint company out there on eBay or something, that details how they did that marble technique.
Kristin Rogersdotter
Absolutely amazing! I'm so glad you preserved the birds. I don't think I would ever have thought to use shading and highlights on the molding but it adds so much depth and beauty. I'm eager to see how this room gets decorated.
Missy Misfit
Totally stunning 💚 I second filming a decorating video for this room if time allows. I’m dying to see it finished.
Connie Cleveland
You have the patience of a saint.
Ace&Otis
I'm so happy you preserved the birds, everything you touch turns out magnificent! A baking soda & hydrogen peroxide paste also works well on your teeth as a subtle, natural whitener :D I am a Dental Hygienist btw;)
Connie Cleveland
It almost looks like splatters of suds from a sink. I wonder if it was done someway via soap suds.??? who knows
Maggie Hopkins
When you said you repainted the walls white for the video, my emotions: 😳🥹❤️
Tori
It looks incredible, Christine! I can't believe you had to paint it five times, I'm sorry you lost all that footage. But the end result is gorgeous! And I always love the pet cameos.
Jane Good
Beautiful as always! I loved that faux marbling on the fireplace as well but how you restored it back to the original was amazing! And you have to be one of the most tenacious people to paint that room so many times. It came out stunning!
Spookycat
Your Mother should have named you Patience, your attention to detail is astounding. Love how the fireplace and walls turned out, simply beautiful. ❣️
Marnie Kaler
Wow
Angela Pearson
I really loved this episode :) you always inspire me, and your talent is astonishing 🖤
Sherrie Potgieter
What a delightful surprise!!! Right in between washings 😄
Lydia Rogers
That came out beautifully! Would love to see it after you decorate.
Tonya Moore
I know how much hard work this is, but I am in awe as you make it look almost effortless and SO much fun! Thank you so much for taking us along on your home restoration journey!
Shelli Gwinn
Amazing as always!
Melissa Kerns
Very lovely!
Christine McConnell
I could sadly believe that! It felt like I looked up every technique for doing this and never saw anything similar 🥺
Brandon Grew
This is a pretty foggy memory, so I could be wrong here, but I seem to remember learning that the faux painting technique they used to use on stone to make one look like a more fashionable material has been lost to time. But I hope I’m wrong!
Emy AUBIN
Let me get some tea and I'm all yours🥰...
Lydia Rogers
Just what I needed on my break! I’m setting a trellis and planting roses and I got too hot.
Deborah Wiltshire Whaley
Oh good! I have been curious about this project. Can’t wait to watch.
Lori Salvador
Can't wait to see the magnificence 😍
