I don't know, but I honestly enjoy Gon's character. I feel like there is a lot more depth and complexity in his character that some people don't see. He may appear simple-minded at first, but there is a lot more to him once you keep watching him. I would also explain more, but I don't wanna give away any spoilers.

Gon is one of the weakest main characters in comparison to yu yu hakusho where yusuke is one of the best main characters. I don’t know where togashi when wrong. The troup, killua and kurapike are the best things to come out of this.
