I snapped awake as the morning light flooded through the window. Moving carefully, I was surprised as the few women I had talked to before about being intimate claimed they were usually sore the next morning. Especially if it was their first time. Whatever was the case, while it didn’t hurt, I still felt like Earle was inside me.
Images of the night before flashed through my head. I could easily feel my face, no, my entire body heating up. My memories and the fact that there was a big red spot in the middle of the sheets told me it wasn’t a dream, not matter how my body felt. Earle likely used some shadow healing similar to Raven to make the moment enjoyable for me.
There was a knock at the door. Ezal entered a moment later. “My lady. While we are both women, it is not proper for you to be in such a state in front of me.”
I blinked and looked down to find I was completely naked. I quickly pulled the covers up to my neck. “Whoops.” Coughing to clear the air, I looked at Ezal. “What is it?”
Ezal very audibly sighed before she took a seat on the edge of the bed. “Well. After last night, I have no doubt that the entire valley will know that the lord has taken a lover. It is going to be quite the talk for a while.”
“What?! Why!?” I asked the blush returning.
“My lady. You were… quite loud last night.”
I buried my head in the sheets. “Just kill me now.”
“Well. It was bound to happen eventually. So? Who’s the lucky fellow that has so bewitched my lady?”
I wanted to disregard her, but I was sitting in my bed naked with her cutting off my path to the wardrobe. If I wanted to get dressed, I would have to answer her question. It was a little hard to straight up order her to leave without a good reason, especially since she was directly involved in handling my security.
I sighed as I pulled my knees up under my chin. I tried to ignore the sensation of the sheets on my skin. The spots where liquids of various types had dried. I pulled the covers over my head. “Fine! It was Sir Earle.”
“I knew that already, but I wanted to make you say it,” Ezal said as she turned and started pulling cloths out for me.
“What! How?!”
She closed the doors to the wardrobe with a resounding click. I could almost feel her exasperation from the action. “You make that much racket without informing me first, of course I’m going to check on you. You were so into it that you didn’t even notice me at the door when I peeked inside.”
Mortified, I groaned in horror. I can’t believe I did that. The memory of last night flashed through my head again as well as the pleasure I felt. I decided it was worth it. Putting on a straight face, I threw the covers off me and grabbed the underclothing and started to dress.
“What’s this?” I turned to see Ezal pick something off the bedstand. When she showed it to me, I found a beautiful bracelet that had to be worth a couple platinum coins. Ezal eyed it over but didn’t appear to find anything dangerous about it. “Already giving you expensive jewelry. I thought that usually came after the cheating began.”
“Enough,” I snapped, snatching the bracelet out of her hands. “You’re on the edge.”
“Sorry, my lady,” she said bowing her head. I had known Ezal most my life but there was still a line that shouldn’t be crossed.
Looking the bracelet over, I found it was made of silver. A large green stone that had been polished to shine like a gem sat in the center. There appeared to be engravings, but I didn’t recognize the language. Carefully slipping it on, I found it fit perfectly. This might have been the real reward he’d intended to give me before I had lured him into my bed chamber.
“When did Earle leave?”
“Before dawn. He left through the entrance. He noticed when I checked on you after all.”
“You know he didn’t have to do that. His control over the shadows is quite frightening. I doubt anyone in the valley could stop him without several anti-mana cuffs to suppress his energy.”
“I thought that might be the case when I found him in your chambers.” I noticed that she was giving me a different type of look. There was caution mixed with concern.
I chuckled. “No, his power was not made me lure him into my bed. I would like to think it was nature. He did not force or coercive me either.”
She stared me down for a few seconds but nodded. “If you say so. Your safety is my number one concern.”
“I know.”

Yawning, I blinked rapidly to push the sleep from my eyes. I had felt well rested when I woke up but staring at these papers could make even the sleepless drowsy. I knew it was part of my duty as the lord of the area, but I hated paperwork. Still, no matter how much I hated it, I was determined to check most of these over myself. The last thing I needed was to accidentally sign my name on a document allowing for a noble to come in owning half the valley suddenly.
There was a knock, but it didn’t come from the door. Looking around curiously, I spotted a hand free floating from a spot in the corner where the light just didn’t quite reach. It knocked on the wall again.
“Yes?”
Earle suddenly formed from the corner once I called out. “Decided to be a bit more proper this time.”
“You could always just ask the guards to show you in,” I commented turning back to the parchment in my hand. Sadly, I couldn’t get past the first sentence. No matter how many times I read it, the content was lost on me. Sighing, I put it down. “You know. Your ability basically says fuck you to all our secrecy.”
“Yes. It is one of the reasons my clan still exists.” He pointed to his head. “The best secrets are the ones you keep locked up here.”
“Somehow I feel you have ways to get at those too,” I retorted leaning back in my chair.
“Maybe, but they are at your disposal if they exist,” he said with a sweeping bow. Heat rushed to my cheeks while my heart started beating faster.
Coughing I gestured to the chair across from me. “Please… sit.” He grinned and did so. “Is this another… social visit?” I couldn’t help glancing at the door leading to my bed chamber.
“While I certainly wound not say no. I actually came to make sure you got my gift, you know how servants sometimes like to pocket things that don’t belong to them, and to see if you wouldn’t like to go for a walk.”
I held up my arm and showed him that I was wearing the bracelet. “Was this the real reward for me?”
Earle grinned though this time I felt the power and hunger behind it. It nearly smothered me. “No. I just like to mark things that I lay claim to. I’m fundamentally a selfish man and don’t like to share.” His grin shifted to a more neutral smile allowing me to breath. I tried to ignore the fact that I felt a dampness between my legs.
“I, ah, I’m flattered I think.” I wiped my hands on my skirt. “And I will accompany you on your walk. If you could just give me a few minutes to freshen up. I will meet you outside.”
“Very well. I shall wait outside.” His form pulled into a single point before it vanished.
I knew I was alone, but I still looked around to double check before I peeked under my skirt. Thankfully, I hadn’t wet myself. I might be new to the ways of arousal and sex, but I could recognize the clear liquid dripping from my thighs. “I might be further down the hole than I thought,” I moaned as I laid my head on the desk with a thud. “At least I’m awake,” I commented with a chuckle.
I called for Ezal to tell her I planned to head out for a walk and only she and Raven needed to come. She vehemently protested but I ignored her protests while I went to my room and changed my underclothing. I hoped that the maid didn’t give me strange looks after this.
Out on the street, Ezal finally calmed down when she saw Earle. Whether she liked it or not, he was one of the strongest people in the valley. Due to how strength was structured on Murgin, no matter how many guards I had. It wouldn’t matter if a high enough tier assassin attacked.
“Well. Lead the way,” I ordered once out on the street. We might be lovers behind closed doors, but in public I was a noble and he was an adventurer.
“As you wish,” Earle replied with a playful smile. He gestured toward the street and I started walking. Embarrassingly enough, I stumbled after only two steps forcing him to grab my arm. “Are you okay?”
“Fine. Fine,” I said clearing my throat.
“Good. Now. I hope you are hungry. I had to search high and low, but finally found a restaurant that doesn’t… anyway, the food tastes good.”
