There are often foreigners who say they want to become friends with Japanese people or have a Japanese boyfriend or girlfriend. However, sometimes when foreigners eat rice, they don’t pick up every grain of rice with their chopsticks and end the meal like that.
Such people are 100% DISLIKED BY JAPANESE PEOPLE. Make it a habit to eat every grain of rice. If you are too full to finish, gather all the grains left in the bowl into one spot in the bowl.
If a friend I got close to or someone I liked left grains of rice in their bowl, I would never see them again.
This is not a cultural difference between Japanese and foreigners. There are many foreigners who do not leave even a single grain of rice in their bowl. They make an effort to pick up every grain with their chopsticks. This is a difference in upbringing and education.
There are many restaurants that refuse foreign tourists, and it's not just a language issue. The accumulation of small issues like this (which are significant for Japanese people) is the reason why foreigners are sometimes refused service at restaurants.
