Sketchbook - NSFW - 7/16
Some older sketches from reference I've hung onto... I don't think I ever posted them here...
Jockstrap Academy - More casting, pt. 2
In today's random draw of Jockstrap characters I ... 1. This first guy's name is Stan. I don't have much on him, so he's just filler. I gave him a beach-y tan so imma say he's into surfing and volleyball, but probably also wrestling. He's boring.2. I don't know this guy's name. He's ripped and blond so he's probably a Tri-Pau.3. Tagg is a dick. That much I know. He's smug and condescending and very privileged. He holds a position on the Greek Council a...
Walk and Talk - a 12-Inch Sketch
This one is pretty rough...
W&D: Aphrodite
I'd like to say I have high expectations for Aphrodite's design but truthfully, my expectations are just as high for as everyone else. In my story, the character is a former It girl/provocateur who isn't really taken seriously by her peers but is able to capitalize on her own personal influence very strategically. When I started thinking about her look, I started with Lourdes Leon, Sofia Loren and Lily-Rose Depp. I sorta merged them together and then started playing with the design fr...
12-Inch Bonus Strip #5_Final
I will definitely be drawing page 2 of this one.
Close Quarters 01 - A 12-Inch Sketch
In retrospect... Matt should be mimicking Leo's serious expression...
Works & Days - Les Oreades
I have this grand vision for a piece of promo art for Works and Days based on Les Oreades, the William-Adolphe Bouguereau painting. Like everything about this project, it's very ambitious but I'll get there eventually. I am figuring out the composition as I work out character designs.
Jockstrap Academy - more casting
Been working on some new ruff designs for Jockstrap Academy, some are main characters, some supporting, some just random...1. MK - MK is your run-of-the-mill campus guy. His height is his entire personality. He's a business major, now showy but really fills out a shirt. Wears straight legged jeans and doesn't realize how boring he is. Everybody likes him.2. Manny Hung - Aka Big Brother Thunderstork. Brings the party everywhere he goes. He's super chill. Super high. Plays basketball a...
Separation - a 12-Inch sketch
I've been pushing through some reference images for character design explores. I'm definitely finding confidence faster while drawing these guys.
Quality Time - A 12 Inch Sketch
A haiku:Pinch the nipple tight Hard-earned loins of humble worth Something grow in grasp
12-Inch Bonus Strip #2 _Final
The bubble work on this one always suffered so it took me a while to go back in and make fixes.
12-Inch Bonus Strip #1_Final
Following up on last week's "final" post, here is another. I could dwell on this one more but decided just to tweak some faces and mark this one "final".
W&D - Page 03 - Ruff Line
My goal on Work & Days is to get 10 pages done at this level - a rough linework that locks in composition and design - but most importantly: script. My wildest ambition would be to create a visual script.
12-Inch Bonus Strip #3_Final
Meant to post this yesterday... Over my recent vacation I was thinking about my bad creative habits:1. Making projects much bigger than they need to be2. Hanging onto old ideas when it's probably better to focus on new ones3. Rushing and not being happy with the results laterThese all lead to procrastination, overthinking and distractions - when I really just want to have fun drawing.A while ago, I told myself that if I was going to engage in these bad habits, they needed to directly contrib...
Back from Vacation
I just got back from a few weeks of vacation and am getting back on my routine. Since I'm not a "tourist-y" traveler, I really thought I'd have more time to write and draw while I was away but instead I ended up reassessing my current creative goals. I started drawing this morning and will get back to my old posting schedule.
Vintage Sketchbook - 5/4
Looking back at old drawings of butts and biceps is a great way of reminding yourself of good ideas you may have discarded.
Towards the Future
I've hit this point where my page progress has slowed - not because I haven't been dedicating the time... I just don't like the work. Ultimately, I know I need equal parts "don't get too precious" and "let's rationalize what you don't like" to move forward.
Vintage sketchbook - 4/27
How could I have forgotten these sketches? They're just as relevant to my POV now.
Vintage Sketchbook - 4/20
In the moment, back in the day, if you would've told me I would find inspiration in these drawings over all the others, I would've laughed at you. But here we are.
Eiffel Tower - a 12-Inch WIP
I've been tackling this 12-Inch story from both ends (wink) which might be a mistake - but right now it's fun, I guess.
Vintage Sketchbook - 4/13
While recently purging some old sketches there were some drawings of which I couldn't bring myself to let go. Some are just fun and kinda dirty for dirty's sake and some that remind me that I have all the tools and inspiration that are needed to complete the projects ahead of me.
