March updates!

Hello! I haven't posted much lately, so here's a big batch update.Mostly I've been doing original stuff... including some doodles that I've posted on twitter:On top of that, I went back to spend some more time with Procreate, which I haven't used in a while. I legitimately use my iPad for nothing else, so sometimes I forget it's even there:This last one is something I just finished this evening. The hatching was fun to do! I do it a lot in my sketchbook, so it was nice to...

Forgot to post this here... Googled "cute korean fashion" and picked an outfit for her!

February rewards out + March plans!

Hello, everyone.I just sent out all the rewards. I hope you enjoy them! (and send me your commission requests if you have them!)I got back to iM@S stuff last month after a while of not doing any, so I might continue with it this month. Plus anything else I might suddenly get an itch for, probably.I think I need to spend some time nailing the design of the main character in the comic I'm in the middle of working on. It's hard to draw a panel out when I'm not sure I even like what she ...

Valentine's Uzuki

I did finish this in time for Valentine's Day (on the day itself...) but forgot to actually post it here.Hi-res and PSD in the rewards!Incidentally, I've been doing most things in Photoshop lately instead of CSP. I thought it would be useful to be handy in both, so I've been practicing. Yesterday I started up CSP to work on a comic page since it's been a while, but after getting stuck I ended up sketching instead...

comm: Rika sandwich time

One of this month's commissions. I was about to say I spent too much time on it, but it really only happened over a couple of days, breaks included. So not too bad!

studies and practice! [continue reading]

Naturally, I spent some time doing studies while taking in all that new knowledge. Up there are some (no ref) figure studies I did after watching a drawing demonstration by Glenn Vilppu. Really soothing old guy with a very rhythmic, productive approach to drawing. Recommended! Some other things: face studies (with ref) with a method presented by Steve Huston, also a good art person. Some of them are janky, but at least I know what to address next. And then there's some important painting prac...

Something for fun.What's her story...?

violet evergarden again

SoThis month, I've been spending time looking into a lot of things, watching drawing videos and all that. I learned things about digital brushwork, colors and construction, and I feel like I need to test it all out now. So I will! But first, here's some stuff I did over the past week, starting with another Violet portrait.I tried out a lot of new things here, so there are a few places I'm sure I'll be improving on over time. For now though, I want to consider this kind of a first...

I finished another page

I wasn't sure what to work on yesterday, so I took out another storyboard page and finished it! I have a better idea of the workflow now, so I think finishing them should take a bit less time than it did at first. The protagonist's look is different once again. So much time has passed between the initial designs, the storyboards and then the finalizing stage that I can't help but change things! But I should start settling on something soon.Hope you like it. Possibly more on the way......

Violet Evergarden

It was only natural that I would end up drawing a piece for Violet Evergarden, a very inspiring show in many respects. There's not a thing I don't love about the show, except maybe that it only airs once a week. But even then, I think having just one of her beautiful experiences to look forward to each week is part of it, too.I definitely spent the most time on the face, or everything above her shoulders, really. That was kind of the important part I wanted to focus on getting right, so ...

princess concept

The Strategist PrincessThis character is meant to be a princess who doesn't fight on her own, but rather commands troops with her staff. A strategist princess of sorts. I imagined that it's a role traditionally passed down through the royal family, but there's actually a deeper story behind it all... which is all I'll say for now! Anyway, not to say I have much in the works right now. It's just yet another idea on the ever-expanding table of things to do.pixiv Sketch Live Str...

January rewards out! + plans for February

I just finished sending out the January rewards to mostly everyone. Thanks for another month of support!I'd just like to mention, in case anyone's forgotten, that the only reason I've been able to draw as much as I have been all this time has been thanks to the help I receive here. It's true!Regarding plans for February...I don't really have any, to be honest. However, it's worth pointing out that this is the first month in two months that I've had the full span of th...

GANBARUBYI finished it! Hi-res and PSD going in the $5 rewards this month... And I just forgot that I neglected to take process screenshots. I'll see if I can't make a step-by-step page just with the layers for the $1 tier.Anyway, next is finishing up $10 tier rewards! Also, here's the accompanying Dia I started, to be finished next time:

girl and white shirt

Photo study againMostly just the shirt, though I took some cues for the lighting on the skin too. This month's $5 folder will be mostly just a bundle of these kinds of quick drawings, so I hope that's okay.

There's a matching Dia, too!

Name change!

momodraws -> oyasumieNo big deal, but I figured I'd mention it. pixiv is the one place where I can't change my handle, so I've changed everything else to match. My twitter account is now @_oyasumie (because just plain oyasumie was taken by someone in 2010—go figure)! The beginning of 2018 seemed like a good time to finally make the change, so there it is.-momo

YOHANEBack to CSP on my PC... still more or less just practice.

Estelle

Tales of VesperiaMore Procreate doodles. It's all I've been able to do recently, but practice is practice, at least.By the way, I have timelapses for all of these thanks to the app's built-in feature! I'm currently debating if I should make those a Patreon reward... If not every one then maybe half of them or so. Hmm.

Kumiko

Kumiko in 6B pencilProcreate + Apple Pencil is kind of amazing

Mari

from A Place Further Than The UniverseI got the coveted Apple Pencil in the mail yesterday, so I went straight to testing it in Procreate. I'm really impressed by both of them, and I also feel very fortunate to have access to all this technology!I really like the pencils so far, but I still have to try out all the other brushes in the app. I can tell I'll be drawing with it a lot!

white dress

Here's another one! A photo study like the boot one in the post just before.I'd include the PSDs for these things in the $5 rewards folder, but they'd only have like one layer in them, so

girl and boot (i.e. slow start to the month)

Still lacking energy from traveling... here's some stuff in the meantime, though. Practice and whatnot:

I'm back! + plans for 2018

Hello! I'm back from my trip and getting settled into my usual schedule. I have a lot of things I want to draw!Things that have happenedMaybe some bullet points to make things simple: All December pledges were processed a couple of days ago and the rewards have been sent out to everyone. Thanks for the support! Commission-tier patrons can send in their requests for the month now, so feel free! I got the iPad! It's the 12.9 inch version which is a nice surprise. Thanks, pixiv! I might as ...
