I know it's very early to be thinking about them, but I love their shapes! Attempting to tie them more into the stained glass window of the municipal building with this version. Inspired by this book cover

Puffin Platter

I am really excited to share this upcoming addition to the Pigeon Post store- a decorative Puffin Platter tray! This is the first sample I've received with the only issue being that some rounded corners aren't fitting properly.

Short-eared owl sketch

Wing shapes are so challenging! This is the basic idea for a something- maybe a poster featuring the Short-eared owl in flight. A lot of inspiration from old Sainsbury's packaging of the 60s and 70s!

Goldfinch vectoring timelapse

Recorded at 20x speedThis probably absolutely crazy to a lot of people, but it's one of my favorite parts of the process!

"The Chase" sketch

A Long-billed Curlew and Willet in pursuit of a Sanderling with a stolen mole crab in his beak. Still figuring out how best to illustrate the crab since mole crabs just look like a rock!

hootalex post Buff-bellied Hummingbird from patreon

Buff-bellied Hummingbird

I am very pleased to share my contribution to the "Disappearing Birds of North America" project. I was also tasked with writing a short paragraph about myself and my work in third person... Alex Tomlinson is an American artist who illustrates birds and other creatures in a flat and colorful style that strives to be simple but well-observed. As with most of his illustrations, this hummingbird started as a sketch that he then traced over in the Glyphs font editing program. As a part-time t...

I posted a version of this awhile ago, but the first version wasn't very good so I removed it... took some time to redraw and feeling much better about it now!

I can't share any more information now but I just completed/had approved the illustration and layout for a book jacket. As you can probably gather from reading this... I am incredibly excited to share this even if I can't share the artwork. The cover features two Eurasian Blackbirds... I've said too much already!!

Wood pigeons in the rain sketch

It's been raining these past few days which doesn't really put me in the holiday spirit- but it did inspire me to sketch my silly wood pigeons playing in a puddle!

Hex signs are gone!

If you are signing up for the Patreon in order to get a hex sign- I only printed 17 so if you are reading this please don't sign up only to get that particular hex sign!

hootalex post Patreon makes a hex sign: the conclusion from patreon

Patreon makes a hex sign: the conclusion

Thank you everyone for voting on this color scheme! I am so happy with how these turned out especially since these colors are a bit out of my normal comfort zone. I was able to print 17 of these successfully. Going to give them some time to dry and then I will be sending them out!

Patreon makes a hex sign: the finale

I have lightly edited the gray chosen in the last layer to work a bit more with each color scheme*These are wildcards since it seems there is bubbling interest in a more monochromatic color scheme

Patreon makes a hex sign: the second layer

This is way too much fun! Time to choose the second color of your custom hex signs...

Patreon makes a hex sign!

I am so happy that there is interest in a Patreon-exclusive hex sign! Over the next few polls I am going to let everyone choose the design and the colors.First question- what design would you want printed? https://www.pigeonpost.cafe/category/hex-signs

Potential patreon mail

Which would you be most excited about?

hootalex post Winter Blue Jay sketch from patreon

Winter Blue Jay sketch

Will likely mess around with the colors and composition a bit more! Did you know the largest snowflake ever recorded was 15 inches??I have a strong recurring urge to draw a snowflake on a bird's beak but every time I do it I feel like it falls a bit short. There's something difficult about the scale, the detail of the snowflake, and how I want there to be no distraction from the snowflake-on-beak moment.
