Random Coyote Productions post Empires Fanart: Variety Pack from patreon

Empires Fanart: Variety Pack

Some general fan art that was published in the pages pf Yarf! I was surprised at how many people liked the story and sent in their own fan stuff. Above was an inking test with Bryce Nakagawa.A great symbolic piece by Dave Bryant. Dave's work was always top notch IMO. This represents three of the main female characters as the Weaver, the Measurer, and the Cutter of Greek mythology.Below: a short comic story by Mark Stanley:More later!

This Yo Baybee, City Boah! Doodles

That's your baby, city boy. Don't pretend it ain't.Even the Caveman knows. But does he know what he knows? Doesn't look like it.The Old Man isn't so sure either way. Eh?Awww, crap. It's happening again!Until next time!

Random Coyote Productions post Empires Fan Art: Morrigan a Favorite from patreon

Empires Fan Art: Morrigan a Favorite

Captain (Later Major) Morrigan in the comic was a favorite character, not just in the story but as a foil for others' fan art. She was a pretty evil bitch, but had a sort of code that she followed at the same time. In role-playing games she would be considered Lawful Evil, I think, and she was really, really uptight and serious, so she was perfect for fan comics.A piece by Jimmy Chin, who really enjoyed working on Empires and liked Morrigan a lot. He had his own comic in the pages of Yarf! t...

Before BOHICA: A Long, Long Time Ago....

I thought this layout was pretty clever; incorporating a panel break (a "gutter") and making this a two-panel comic while in truth it is all one picture but with two different dialogue events happening in it. Of course this is pretty normal stuff in a lot of comics but for me experimenting in these things meant pushing new ideas. Not a new idea was giant bugs, especially mosquitoes, that required the use of crew-served weapons to deal with. I think every military cartoonist has done this ...

Army Doodles

Some silly doodles I did at Drill one weekend. Above: re-doing "Robin Hood" as a couple of carefree and playful Army malcontents. It always seems that there's some hard-core workout guy who can't understand why a big chubby guy can't do the same things he can."Get on down and knock 'em out, sojer!"Here, some space army stuff.Later!

Empires Fan Art: Short Comic by Roy D. Pounds Jr.

The above comic was run in the pages of Yarf! fanzine; an early fan project that came as an unexpected and yet very welcome surprise to me. It kinda blew me away that people were enjoying my story enough to create their own projects based off of it.There are more Empires fan projects to come!

Ahhhh..! Oh, No, DOODLES!

Above: Killer clowns attack!A quick sketch of an Avenger-class gunship sailing over a cartoon expressing my frustration as one of "those people" at a meeting just keeps talking and talking and talking and asking question after question after question when we are long past time to adjourn and go to lunch. An old style Japanese aircraft carrier. How about a cute fluffy bunny to end on a nice note?Later!

Random Coyote Productions post Empires Fan Art: Ink! Ink! Ink! from patreon

Empires Fan Art: Ink! Ink! Ink!

Back when I was doing Empires for Yarf, I would draw the pages by pencil and then send them to another artist for "inking". This was the way it was done in the Old Times. The artist would apply ink to my lines, often bringing their own style to the pages in the process (which I enjoyed). The pencil lines would then be erased afterwards and the final product printed in the pages of Yarf! fanzine.I developed a bit of a reputation as a harsh inking taskmaster, mostly because of the amount o...

"Shut Up, Maya", Doodles

Ever have "that person" in a meeting? We're getting shoveled a bunch of new instructions, stupid things we have to do. But there's a worker in our office who is like, "Oboy, this is great! This is a wonderful idea! We should do this!" She get's the "cheese-eater/boot-licker/butt-kisser" medal. It's frustrating, isn't it!? Yeah, yeah it is!Here are some military vehicles. They always make me feel better. We'll close it out with an adorable doggo. Unti...

One-Off Fun: 3-360th Motor Rifle Regiment

Many years ago I was in a unit called the 3-360th OCT Battalion. OCT's are "Observer-Controller-Trainer" and we were the people that followed units around during downrange field exercises, evaluating their performance and ability to adhere to doctrine, perform battle drills properly, not cheat, etc.Our unit was part of 1st Army, which in my opinion were a bunch of overly-rigid, stiff-necked, hidebound battle droids. They were sticklers about adhering to doctrine to the point where (I...

Random Coyote Productions post Finished Product: "21 & 42" from patreon

Finished Product: "21 & 42"

This is the finished product of "21 & 42", the art piece I did for the benefit auction. It raised $45.00. The numbers 21 and 42 refer to the wolves, radio collar tags #21M for the male, and #42F for the female. These were wolves released into Yellowstone National Park in 1996 as part of the recovery and reintroduction effort.Laser prints are available for $20.00 apiece for anyone that wants them; I hope to use the proceeds to help fund a graphic novel about the wolf reintroduction story ...

Before BOHICA: Comics From the Wayback Era

As mentioned, I had the character of "Joe Rock" from my earliest days in the Army. You can even see some similarity to the character above on the right, and the character that would eventually become "Douglas Dawg", even though he wasn't named at this point. My old comics from the 1-12th Infantry Battalion, in the late 1980's, were only shared within the Company and were very topical to that experience. We got a new company commander to replace our previous one, and the pr...

Yet More Doodles!

Time to bring this back to the fore! Nravitsaya! Above: I always liked the idea of an M1 tank with a casemate mounted heavy cannon, like an assault gun version or tank hunter. I don't know why but I just dig it.An idea for an observation plane, kind of like an OV-10 Bronco but with wings mounted low.OH NOES! It's FRANKENDOG! Seriously, how come no one's done this before?Bitch is gonna cut a bitch. I recommend getting out of her way.Had enough? I know I have.Peace out homies.
